He may...we will never really know, but from his resume and track record, I have a hard time believing that.

Bettman may or may not care about the fans, but he definitely cares about the long term health of the league.

I get that it wasn't perfect but the salary cap has helped the league greatly.

In way way? All it's done is force the likes of FLA NYI and so on spend 2x what they are capable.

are you guys dating???

(and you never answered the guys question)

- LetsGoIsles

Probably because it's a question that will lead into a boring debate? A 48 game season IMO sucks, will I watch hockey? Of course but it sucks none the less. What would I prefer? 82 game season of course. See how boring that was?

I disagree.

That whole cock block of Jim Balls Silly was absurd and no way what was best for the game. Instead, he chose to keep the Coyotes in Phoenix instead of having a billionaire over pay for them and put that team in a more viable hockey market.

Zero hope, and its too late anyways. A regular season and playoffs now will be an insulting joke. Just do a deal and start next year.

I don't agree. By the time most players found their legs the playoffs were starting. Plus whoever wins the cup will not get full credit, it will be "the team that won in that half season". I of course as an Islander fan will be more than happy with a half a cup.

Thats part of the salary cap structure. Dont pick and choose the impact of a Cap at your own convinience.

As a matter of fact, the Cap itself was barely restricting teams from spending like drunken salaries and it constantly went up and up and was at almost 70 million. Almost 20 million more from the original figure.

Interesting part of NHL offer (obtained by @Real_ESPNLeBrun) is draft lottery in which all non-playoff teams have crack at No. 1 pick. "

I like this, it will help get rid of the silly tanking talk.

It hasnt.

It should have, and that was the point, but it didnt fix anything or we wouldnt be in this mess today with the players making more than ever and the owners continueing to screw themselves.

- systemtool

The players are making more than ever because of revenues. The cap has brought more stability and by splitting the share instead of giving more of every dollar to the players will add more stability. Do you expect every CBA to be perfect? How big of rollbacks was bettman suppose to get in 04-05?

Almost 20 mil? It started at 39 mil. It's over 30mil increase.

Hmm my bad. I thought that was floor with the cap at 52. No?

Either way, just proves the point that they fixed (frank) all.

Lottery would be heavily in favor of teams finishing at the bottom, has to be fair for them.
