not sure. depends on the players who really do want to save the season. if they continue rolling over and letting guys like Chris Campoli, Daniel Winnick and Ron Hainsey drive this bus, this deal won't get done until the very last second if at all. but overall i think the PA still feels they have enough time left to pretty much reject this deal and wait for the NHL to come back to them in a week.

This is something I literally LOL about when I heard it. Of all people you have Campoli representing the NHLPA? It should be on Ripley's believe it or Not that he's still playing in the NHL

Different Union heads, but the same results each time. Lock outs and seasons lost. The one constant? Bettman.
- systemtool

Comments like this make me laugh. If you were Bettman what would you do?

I have more respect for Bettman now than I ever have. At least you know what your dealing with in regards to Bettman.

I would rather deal with him then Fehr any day.

Except the 48 game season in 94/95 was probably the best NHL hockey I have seen since every game meant something.
- opeth_pa

ergo.. the 82 games is a scam. Just play 48 every year. Actually have the playoffs start in latre Febuary and stop awarding the cup in June.

Not all owners are on the same page though. There is a divide among them, and to ignore Bettmans role in all this, and the advice he gives his owners, cannot be ignored or dismissed.

They lost a season and fixed nothing. For that, Bettman has to be held accountable.

He has to be angling for a job in the NHLPA offices because his career is just about done

I love it because I play it and have for 20 year. I will watch because I enjoy it. I don't care because they have taken the care out of me.

Love him or hate him, its his job to keep the NHL afloat. Remember, Bettman is only the face of the NHL. In the end, the owners have the final say in all of this.

I actually have more respect for Bettman now than I ever have.

I would rather deal with him the Fehr any day.

- sjshrky27

I would rather not be childish about it, and pick sides. Ill accept the fact that neither truly cares about the game, that both are to blame. Love or hate either Fehr or Bettman but both are doing whats best for the people they represent. IMO, both could be doing a better job and both are responsible for the mess we're in today.

According to Systemtool, the salary cap was implemented prior to the 04/05 lockout.

it is weird to have a guy in there without an NHL contract and very unlikely to ever get one again. not sure how comfortable i'd be with him representing my best interests when he has virtually no stake in the outcome. it's like another Donald Fehr.

I get that it wasn't perfect but the salary cap has helped the league greatly.

FFS, let me guess, they will just go back to demanding all of the things they want on their terms, the NHL will get pissed off again, and all the moron players will whine about how they tried to get a deal done and the NHL is bleeding them dry. then they will pose with stacks of money in vegas.

Yeah, you might be right about that? He might be a sh!tty hockey player but smart? Remember him and Gervais on the second pairing? Makes you miss Mottau. Oh, the memories...

I never said they didnt accomplish anything. I said they didnt fix anything, and they didnt.

According to PatC80, all the leagues problems were fixed in 2004-2005.

It hasnt.

It should have, and that was the point, but it didnt fix anything or we wouldnt be in this mess today with the players making more than ever and the owners continueing to screw themselves.

Not exactly, I said the league couldn't fix the game all in one Collective bargaining agreement.

I agree with 90% of your statement. However, I disagree about Bettman not caring.

I honestly think he does. Sure it all comes down to money, but IMO he seriously cares about the game.

He may...we will never really know, but from his resume and track record, I have a hard time believing that.
