That's what I'm thinking about. MY personal Freedoms! What a crock. Honestly what is wrong with some people?
What about the personal freedom of the victims, or the Police and First responders who have to face those firearms? But Heaven forbid I have to give something up. It makes me sick. - MJL
Did you bother to read his analogy? People worried about losing their right to own a gun (which at current is legal) to a woman driving drunk killing a baby(which is a crime last time I checked) trying to somehow corrolate the two? How does that make any sense whatsoever?

So you think comparing law abiding citizens that own guns with a drunk driver that killed a baby is rational? - MnGump
Yeah, that is EXACTLY what the arguments have been , whatever.
I love how the pro-gun, pro-freedoms crowd doesn't debate the statictics or the reality, or the ONLY purpose of fully automatic assault weapons, or whether it is OK that there is the possiblity that people who are NOT responsible, or even sane, get a hold of these weapons...
No, instead, that crowd tries to draw comparison to other means of dieing and other illegal things, in order to support their position.

Then my wife is friends with a bunch of total A-holes on facebook saying "I'm not sending my kids back to school until its safe".

Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, was the sole representative of gun rights’ activists on the various Sunday talk shows. In an interview on “Fox News Sunday,” Gohmert defended the sale of assault weapons and said that the principal at Sandy Hook Elementary School, who authorities say died trying to overtake the shooter, should herself have been armed.
“I wish to God she had had an M-4 in her office, locked up so when she heard gunfire, she pulls it out and she didn’t have to lunge heroically with nothing in her hands. But she takes him (the shooter) out, takes his head off before he can kill those precious kids,” Gohmert said.

It would be funny if it wasn't so terrifying that people actually think this way. - Atomic Wedgie
You should change this to read:
It would be funny if it wasn't so terrifying that elected officials in the country that holds itself out to be the most civilized in the world actually think this way.
I'm not anti guns. I own them. I beleive in trained people with guns can help society.
I am against selfish bumholes who think of themselves first no matter how bad things get. - Buffalo--Sabres
Yes I agree with this. But your analogy made no sense. You can't justly compare something legal with something egregiously illegal. ie. Legally owning guns to drunk driving manslaughter.
Yes, as a knee jerk reaction to the tragdey on Fri. peoples first thoughts should probably be something other than oh my god I'm going to lose my right to own a gun. But likening that to drunken vehicular manslaughter is irresponsible IMO>

You continually state that people are advocating removing the right to own guns.
Please stop.
Nobody is saying this.
Every rational call for stricter gun controls advocates things that you have already stated you would be fine with.
What's wrong with mandating guns are locked up at all times, trigger locks, background checks, and a ban on assault rifles?

McGump will just come back saying that the color blue would simply be replaced by orange. - Le_Moderateur
I don't want to get into name calling here: McGump has listed why he is a responsible gun owner, and I take his word for it.
I don't have a problem with gun ownership. Hell, I'd love to try hunting (as an aside, it's just not something you can go out and try. You pretty much need to have a friend who hunts, and alas, I don't have that).
I'm just opposed to the polarizing debate. It needs to stop.
Rational gun controls are not the same as banning all guns.

That's common sense and pretty much the general consensus. I'm simply amazed at the use of words like freedom and opportunism in all these debates. Like how some people call everything nazi or communist when they disagree.

I did not reply to his post where he made that analogy. Regardless of whether it is an accurate analogy or not. I understand the point he was trying to get across.
It would be funny if it wasn't so terrifying that elected officials in the country that holds itself out to be the most civilized in the world actually think this way. - Emperor Filonius
I'm not sure how Civilized the US is when one state is putting into action a plan to grade chilcren by race :
"And I was shocked to find that the state board of education [was] putting in place permanent disparities between different subgroups — Asians at the top, African-Americans at the bottom," says McEachin.
Here's what the Virginia state board of education actually did. It looked at students' test scores in reading and math and then proposed new passing rates. In math it set an acceptable passing rate at 82 percent for Asian students, 68 percent for whites, 52 percent for Latinos, 45 percent for blacks and 33 percent for kids with disabilities.
Well I guess I don't follow you then. Not sure if you read the post I was referring to. A reactionary and irrational soliloquy stating that people worried about losing their rights is somehow on the same level of drunken vehicular manslaughter.
I'm not the one avoiding statistics, and I'm not the one arguing tighter gun laws and regulations. I've stated several times as an avid hunter that I agree assault weapons should be banned altogether, as well as extended high capcity magazines and semi automatic hand guns.
So I'm not sure where you find fault in my argument. Either way, people need to put some thought into their commentary before they start spewing out a bunch of knee jerk rhetoric trying to lump all gun owning americans into some sort of "red neck" group of gun toting lunatics.
I'm for change and I'm for the protection of innocent people, especially children.
