It's sure as heck not the guns fault. I say it's the fault of those who make the laws that make it so easy to obtain these weapons. The fault of the sicko who pulled the trigger.

Removed my thyroid and readjusted my windpipe. It was brutal when they stuck the tube down my throat while awake. Sleep aptnia caused that, I was under for 2 days and in intensive care. I have my netbook and smartphone. I did hear Obama talk about the strike, on Friday, while in ICU. I still have a huge cathator, because they damaged my prostate.

Yes, legislation needs to be revised and MUCH tougher on gun control and crimes involving guns, but I would say that the biggest problem is how deeply guns are engrained into American culture.

With regards to guns, most Americans have their priorities backwards. Americans are so focused on their individual "constitutional right to bare arms" and how their rights and freedoms would be infringed upon if their guns were taken away when in actuality THE LIVES AND THE SAFETY OF EVERY INDIVIDUAL FAR OUTWEIGHS any (frank)in right to bare arms. What about every victim of gun violence RIGHT TO LIFE? Is being allowed to carry a gun more important than that?

America has a serious problem that needs to be addressed NOW! How many kindergarden classrooms, movie theatres, high schools, universities neighborhoods, places of work and public spaces etc etc etc etc etc need to be cut down in gun fire?; How many lives need to be shattered before the people and the leaders of the US grow a pair of balls and deal with this problem?

Let me ask everyone an honest question:

Why is it when an American does something like this, it's a gun problem. But when someone.. lets say from overseas, does something like this it's a terrorist attack. When WE do it, it's a gun problem. When THEY do it, it's not a gun problem, they are just evil. When a terrorist does something like this.. No one focuses on the gun. Just the act itself. Are we scared that... maybe we may be like the people we fear?

Has anyone here read the Hellblazer comic series, and if yes, is it worth reading?

Again, if it is worth reading, the whole series or only some arcs?

I think the common thread here is that most of us agree that assault rifles, extended magazines for hunting rifles should be eliminated, and most hand guns should have increased regulation if not elimination.

The problem is, with all the hyperbole flying around along with the I'm right and you're stupid mentality, there is no common ground to have even a reasonably mature and/or meaningful conversation.

I can certainly see ones opinion towards the US and it's gun policy when someone is on the outside looking in. I don't disagree with much of what the level headed and reasonable ones seem to be saying. On the other hand, we as US citizens as you know like to gloat about how "free" our society is. Most of us want to hang onto any possible freedom that's still afforded us by the US constitution. 200+ years old or not.

That being said, I think the majority or at least the level headed gun owners of this great country will very soon if not immediately see the need to reexamine the gun laws currently in the books both on a state and federal level and do whatever is possible to tighten regulation and restrict if not outright ban certain weapons and accessories.

Bear in mind though that there are approximately 300 million privately owned guns in the US. Approximately 52 million households that own them. Even if the US banned all assault rifles and hand guns tomorrow, not only would it take the government years upon years to collect them, it would be a miracle if they collected even 50% of them.

Which is not to further the argument, only to say that no matter what legislation is changed, it's going to be a very long process.

Cause of the disproportionate gun violence in the US compared to the rest of the world.

Another eye pooping stat...

Since Columbine there have been 31 school shootings in the US

Rest of the world combined..... 14
