How am I not surprised you'd say something as dumb as this... while agreeing with an idiotic statement.
Gun control is not the issue. Were there any shots fired with the Oklahoma City bombing in the mid 90's? That answer would be no. How about 9/11? No again.
There's no easy answer, but banning guns is not one of them. - shoogabear
of course, of course. there's absolutely no way fewer guns would lead to fewer senseless murders. and pointing to 2 terrorist attacks in the past 20 years is absolute proof of that. (frank)ing brilliant.
how many people and now children have to be massacred before people like you get a (frank)ing clue and realize that accessibility to firearms is a big (frank)ing problem and limiting that access and taking guns out of circulation and making them tougher to obtain will mean fewer deaths?
this attitude is so beyond ridiculous. the rest of the civilized world disagrees with American views on guns. but we're all wrong, and the Americans have the right approach to gun control, despite the constant massacres. |

From 2 days ago. No fatalities. - Scooby_Doo
Ok? You gave no backround to your statement, all you said was if you don't have a gun you don't kill anyone. That's wrong. Guns are not the only thing that kill people.

Correct. But they make it much easier to do so. A lot less premeditated. And a much more cowardly way to do so. Guns are so wrong in every way. |

Um yes it is the answer. Pretty cut and dry. If you don't have a gun, you don't kill someone. Ps, that was pretty dumb comparing to 9/11. What about columbine?
Too bad Lanzas mom wasn't a gun owner... Oh wait, she had 3 of them. - Scooby_Doo
Totally insensitive remark about Lanzas. Not surprised though. People like you don't think, you FEEL.
Now, if you were to catch my drift about 9/11 and OK City, you'd understand that I'm referring to the PEOPLE carrying out the act are the problem. Because in the other hand you have people like me:
1. US Marine (trained killer)
2. Owns a semi-automatic
3. Never broke a law
4. Never shot at a civilian
Now, someone like you may see 1 & 2 and think "Oh my, he's gonna kill someone." I don't blame you. You probably believe every thing an anti-gun reporter, columnist, and newscaster might say. Hell, you could probably quote lines from (that ridiculous lie of a documentary) Bowling for Columbine.

I've got my kid's new school pictures right in front of me on the wall. Little girl is 10, the boy is 7. They're smiling for the camera. Their whole life in front of them, now getting excited as poop for Christmas. Thursday 20 kids my son's age were doing the same thing and now they aren't. 20 kids. 27 families that are destroyed. Countless other children that will never be the same. It makes me ill thinking about them, thinking about those teachers who put themselves in the line of fire to try to help whomever they could. All because some coward was able to get his hands on a piece of machinery that people use to kill one another and was purchased legally. Why someone would need such an instrument is beyond me. I'm not going to sit here and condemn the Americans on this site for their rights and what they believe in. I have no right to do so. It's a shame that it's come to a bunch of pissing matches of "us vs them". It really shouldn't as this isn't the proper place for it. It's just so hard to not get caught up in what we think is "right", we've seen this so many times yet it doesn't happen anywhere near the frequency here or abroad as it does in the States. So if an American is taking offence to any of the posts keep in mind, we're not picking on you or trying to start anything. We just don't get it. - weirdoh

So it's availability should be limited, right? - Symba007
More importantly IMO is the availability of high capacity magazines. The rifle he used was a .223 which is a glorified varmint gun. It's a long grain .22 caliber shell that's built for long range shooting. In other words it's a .22 with the power of a small to mid size rifle cartridge. The reason he was able to kill so many was because of the high capacity ammo clips. I believe Lanza had 40 round magazines on him, and he had several. Getting rid of those types of mags would be a very good start. |

It's the mind behind the gun. I can own an automatic weapon and not let it control me. Others cannot.

I just don't understand why you need or want to own a gun? It makes zero sense to me. I don't want to own a sealed box of uranium just so I can say I do. Owning a gun other than for hunting for survival is useless (semi automatic rifles for hunting are crazy).

EDIT: Then again, they play Houston and Green Bay the last two weeks. Tall order.. - sanfordnson
It's no doubt going to be a tall order. Although he's already had a 200+ game against GB this season. Hope he can at least break the 2000 mark. |

To all you idiots wanking about guns control based on the number of hand gun deaths in the US, I proposed a ban on alcohol. According to the CDC (that's the Center for Disease Control and Prevention):
In 2010, 10,228 people were killed in alcohol-impaired driving crashes, accounting for nearly one-third (31%) of all traffic-related deaths in the United States.
This does NOT account for other illegal drugs. |

We don't have the right to own guns for the purpose of hunting, silly. |

That's your prerogative. However who are you to tell a law abiding citizen what he or she cannot own. I'm all for having systems in place, but I don't understand when people try to project their views onto other people in society, |

Yes, that and yesterday some jack ass opened fire in a California mall parking lot. Fired off about 50 rounds supposedly, luckily no one was reportedly hurt. |

But the vast majority of gun owners don't put people in danger. They're everyday citizens who for whatever reason own guns.
We often hear about the gun murders in the states, but how many of those people are involved in crime to begin with? |

It's not so much the semi-auto aspect as is why would one need an extended or high capacity magazine to hunt.
I've hunted with a semi auto 30-06 since I was 16 years old. My clip holds 5 bullets, that's standard. Anything beyond this is excessive and unnecessary. If you can't hit your target with 5 rounds then you shouldn't be shooting at it or you shouldn't be hunting. |

Hell, let's not exclude the other non-drug related deaths related to vehicles. The latest year I could find stats on is 2009 (which was a down year by over 5,000 from the previous 8 years).... 33,808 fatalities. Almost triples the gun related deaths.
Let's just ban automobiles. That should take care of it. |
