I enjoy all the Leaf bashing on here, it's hilarious. But has anyone else noticed that the only fans that bash other teams are the ones that haven't won a Cup in a while? I rarely see Hawks, Bruins, Kings, Wings or Pens fans bashing anyone. Majority of bashing comes from fans without legs to stand on.

You're right but for the wrong reason.

Being an Oilers fan pretty much guarantees you will know many Calgary fans, cause, y'know, provincial rivals. Also, the Vancouver-Edmonton rivalry probably eclipsed the Battle of Alberta in quality several years ago. Plus BC and Alberta have kind of a mutual hard on anyway, but are close enough that all BCers and Albertans know many people from the other province. Finally, you can't trip over a rock in Canada without meeting six Leafs fans, one of whom makes the rest look bad, and one of whom makes the guy who makes the rest look bad look bad.

Anyways, we're not picking on the weak... we're partly busting our metaphorical buddies' balls, and partly sharing opinions on teams we know a lot about with people who know a lot about them. Most Oilers fans know the Leafs, Nucks and Flames teams nearly as well as those teams' own fans because we have friends who cheer for those teams.

I have no friends who identify as fans of the Hawks, Bruins, Kings, Wings or Pens, ergo I have less incentive to know about those teams because I like talking hockey and have no one to talk hockey with about those teams. Also, if it comes down to those teams in the Playoffs I'd rather be given a dollar than be able to say which of those teams win the Cup. Except I'd rather it wasn't Crosby because he annoys me in a way that I really can't define... I guess I just don't like the cut of his jib. Fantastic hockey player though.

And finally, in regards to Leafs bashing in general... that 1/6 leafs fan who makes the guy making the rest look bad look bad... he is really annoying. Like, could give That Annoying Canucks Fan lessons. If you guys could put a muzzle on that silly SOB we could probably work out some kind of compromise.

so cull the herd ? I like it. They would have to fire Burke too though, cull number one. I mostly just feel pity for Leaf fans though, I couldn't do it. And still doesn't explain why these 1/6 fans don't exist in like Detroit, how is Detroit going through such tough financial times yet don't produce any ignorant fandoms. Good on em.

The thing about Crosby is that he comes across as somewhat of a cocky douche. Now, that's not without reason, though, and, to be honest, the fact that the media follows him around like he's a god likely amplifies and exaggerates any such feelings we have towards him. Whenever mentioning my disdain for him in an argument, I'll get called out for only hating him because he's good and that I'm jealous. To some degree, perhaps, but you don't see me calling out and hating on Steven Stamkos, do you? No because Stamkos is a quiet, unassuming kid that goes about his business being an elite player without all the fanfare. Again, that's likely due in part to Crosby's existence, but that's beside the point.

yeah good call on the stamkos point. my big issue with crosby isn't really anything specific, just that he is the "face of the NHL" and generally when you talk about him the general feeling is somewhere between "he's a douche" and "meh, he's ok". given the state of the NHL though I may have to reconsider my stance, he may be the perfect "face of the nhl". Same with ovie, it's just embarrassing really.

Yes, and yes. It's HBO, so plenty of gratuitous nudity. It's revolves around prohibition bootleggers and gangsters, so there is tonnes of gnarly mob style hits and a pretty substantial body count. Good old wholesome programming.
