Yeah and so is sky diving. More people drive each day than fly. The numbers aren't comparable.

Chicago O'Hare was probs the most terrified I've been from a landing.

the windy city. Wind in the worst. I was sleeping on a flight to Fort Mac last spring and at about 1000 feet as we descended the (frank)ing plane literally turned sideways. I woke up in the window seat and was looking directly at the ground. I was truly terrified. Especially since the charter planes they use still have (frank)ing ashtrays in them they are so old.

Didn't you work in aerospace?

Currently there's a product we have here, not one I work on, they go on a twin engine Cessna. The alternator shaft has been drilling a hole into the housing. The only way they can tell that it did that is by the alternator gauge going zero. So that means fuel is dumping into the engine bay while in flight. Want to know their solution?

JB weld. Yeah real (frank)ing safe.

I can't wait to find a new job.

Edit: also when they asked my advice about an issue they were having with fluctuation in flows I told them the housings are garb and these should be allowed to fly. What'd they do you ask? They shipped them anyway and one blew up in flight resulting in a crash about a month ago. I was selected to go over the unit with the FAA and NTSB to determine the cause of the explosion. That was a (frank)ing nightmare.

Corrective Action Meetings

we used to have a supplier who supplied metal bearings to us.

we had this one rubber diaphragm nobody could manufacture so we told them you want the rest of the business, you take this part too.

they could never get it right.

we ended up rejecting 50% of what they sent us and I had to drag my ass to New Hampshire every other month to berate them.

by the end I was basically going there to have beers with the guys and we'd talk about how I was supposed to be berating them but it was pointless.
