Well, possibly he could be slow maturing? Just sayin'.

Leading the Baby Pens in scoring with 4-8-12 in 16 equals a nothing in the NHL. Oh well, not like we'll be watching NHL hockey anytime soon.

Tangradi has 9 goals and one assist, those are Bennett's stats you have there.

There has been many occasions where a player does mediocre in the AHL and does better in the NHL. This is also Bennett's first year in the pros. All I was asking is how they are playing. Anyone who stands out?

John you should just turn this blog into a Wilkes Barre blog until the season starts. At least they are playing and have something for us to discuss.

Also looks like Zatkov (I think) is the real AHL deal. I have been listening to some of the games and he sounds very athletic and technically sound. Wont be back to have a cheap goalie coming up, Theissen didnt seem up to the NHL backup standard last year.

Bennett, Tangradi, Zatkoff, Farnham and Depres have been pretty terrific so far. I would even throw Ferriero and Gibbons into the mix of late. You can follow Jason Iacona and Mike O' Brien on twitter for updates as well as @WBSPenguins

Gunner you make some good points.
But if Max Talbot can do it Sidney Crosby can do it.

Do you think Bylsma keeping Sid off the PK has anything to do with injury concerns? Ditto for Malkin?

No. It has a lot to do with roles of the 3rd and 4th line guys who have specialized in making the Penguins the top penalty killing team of the past few years. He hasn't played that often due to injury and he doesn't play on penalty kill much because guys like Staal have worked it well in the past and now Sutter will have to take that part of his game the most serious as well. Cooke, Kennedy, Vitale and Adams are all guys that get considerable ice time because they get on the penalty kill and hold themselves to it. Crosby is all the more offensive than they are and so on a shorthand he is spectacular but he is not the grit option that some of the other guys are. He could be but I'm not sure if thats necessary. Interestingly from a shorthand goal side of things Sutter, who has ahistory of being a solid penalty killer also scores on shorthands very well. Pretty awesome.

I was most impressed with how he handled his business in the corners. For having a smaller frame he was winning a good amount of puck battles in the trenches.

Game I went to last week Bennett looked okay. He got pushed off the puck when racing for it down the ice and seemed to give up on some plays. He did show that he was willing to fight for it in the corners at times and has a quick shot. Overall he is just about where I thought he would be at this point. Zatkoff looked solid. Made some key saves, good positioning, and seemed to keep cool and focused when there was a scramble in front of the net.

Yeah he certainly needs to grow into the pro game, but I was pleasantly surprised with what I saw given his injury troubles in college and jumping right into the AHL in a talent rich lockout year.

This year will be great for him from a developmental standpoint.
