I'm not sure if anyone caught this game but I watched from the 2nd until near the end of the 3rd and it was a great game. It was fast paced and very physical.

McNeill almost scored near the end of the 3rd as well. He wasn't playing a lot when mid-frame but in the 3rd it seemed like he was out every other shift.

Shalunov once again looked like one of the most physical forwards on the Russian team. He did get drilled himself and the WHL were really trying to line him up.

I think that is what they call "posturing"
- fattybeef

The time is passed for "posturing": at this point, neither side will be convinced by the other side's posturing; nor will the general public.

The time is ALMOST passed for action.

I still can't see a dec 1st start. They would need a deal by tomorrow. No way for that. Maybe a January start? But they do need to stop with this pissing contest and meet. Today or tomorrow

I don't see a start to this season at all. I'm not trying to be negative but there have been no signs to point to a resolution anytime soon. I know the NHL and PA were talking for a few straight days but nothing has some of it.

Haha I don't disagree but at this point only having one voice (Fehr) is really the practical way to do things.

Pretty irritating but it is what it is.

Like I said earlier trying to figure out which owners want what would make a pretty interesting story. And the perspective from a fringe AHL/NHL player, a 4th line bruiser and incrementally a player or two from minimum wage up to the max would be telling.

Most of the guys who have signed big deals and have had them for 2+ years shouldn't be in too much trouble or unable to find work elsewhere but some of these other guys I could see being rather irritated as their salary really wont change regardless of change.

I'm more concerned about how many concussions Toews has had. He had at least 2 before he ever turned pro and has had 2 or more since he joined the Hawks. That translates to short career for most players.

Watching game six of the Super Series on a Russian feed because I'm too cheap to give the CHL six bucks to watch their feed. Anyone speak Russian?

Off topic here but if the Icehogs lose tonight do you think a coaching change may result? They could always put Q there as he might as well do something this year.
- eagle50

No and No.

As for Dent .....

Althought Trent Yawney would have been my choice and as I wrote back then he was on a very short list to get the job but...
The Hawks really didn't have much choice but to promote Dent.

From what I heard, Dent pushed for the job and most Organizations promote from within, doing otherwise sends a bad signal.

But make no mistake the Hawks knew what they were getting and despite what many think....Being the head coach at any level is much different than being an assistant.

Dent was in a tough spot last year...A green head coach with a very young team without much veteran leadership. My guess is he won't be given a pass with bad results this time around.

That said it is unlikely any changes will be made until after the season.

As far as Q.....Although he would rather be coaching he is still cashing a nice check and will enjoy the time off.

YES...

And when you say at least two before turning pro....That was the number used from ND....Who knows what happened before his college career??

Call me cynical but who knows for sure how Hossa and Monty have felt as well.

There was a reason Hossa worked out alone in front of the Hawks staff a couple of months ago...Looking good on the ice doesn't mean the player feels 100% while skating or afterwards.

Speaking of Toews there was an article in todays Tribune saying that he was not 100% in the playoffs which I think most suspected and that he was still not 100% in July and went to some clinic in Atlanta in October and is just now feeling right. My question is how do the Hawks allow him to play and risk the future of their best player.
- jhawk159

As far as why Toews was allowed to play....

Evidently there is a gap between passing the testing protocol and being 100%.

A lot of things don't make sense to me...

Players get a serious head injury and still drive cars...Like I heard Hossa did the same night of the Torres hit...

Not to forget Toews hitting the "L" support a few days after his head injury.

Since coming back from injury earlier this season Saad has been such a different player. He is playing with much greater confidence and is getting results. Starting to worry about Carter Hutton though....
- nathanjf

Yup..Saad has points in 3 straight games if I am not mistaken...2goals and an assist...Hopefully the kid continues to develop...He probably wont be a superstar for the Hawks, but I think he or Danault could be Andrew Ladd type players, where you can stick them from time to time on first or second lines, while playing most of the time on the third line...I have to admit, someone mentioned a third line of Bolland Shaw and Danault in a year, I think that would be wicked..physical,feisty, and goal scoring ability

I don't know where you live.. And if you have the chance their Enjoy By was amazing.. in Chicago, it was in Aug-Sept, I was only able to get my hands on 3 bottles.. SOOOOOO good.

Their normal beer, I still love me some Stone Pale Ale. Fell in love with it almost 6 years ago on a trip out to SD.. Also most beer are on the shelves for 180 days, Stone pulls theirs after 90.. Another reason to love them.

In his blog Adam French called Maxim Shalunov the most effective forward for the Russians...Good to hear some positive news about something Blackhawk related

If you want a current/former Hawk reference for each:

Danault=Bolland
Saad= sort of a poor man's Hossa (similar overall skill set and game, but not at the same overall talent level)

I don't think either is really a Ladd type player.

I know Danault plays center, and can actually win some draws, but I have read that he plays wing too...And after I read what Wiz wrote(at least I think he wrote it) that after Danault had a big gash in his head, he still came back and was finishing his checks and throwing his weight around, the first thing that popped into my head was Ladd...

As for Saad, a poor man's Hossa is never bad to have on a team...

Any news on the lockout JJ? How have you been spending all this free time without the Hawks?....BEARS?!

Even though McNeill is a center I think he might becone a Ladd type player. Tough, WHL guy who is used in all situations. Penalty kill, match up against other teams top guys like Ladd. Fights, hits. Don't really know his ceiling as far as scoring at nhl level, though

I picture McNeill more like a Troy Brouwer, only a little better (not offense intended on Brouwer). Time will tell what type of player McNeill will develop into, maybe he'll just be a McNeill.
