It was tongue in cheek. And regardless of the lockout, they'd still be in that position. - LeftCoaster
possibly, but I think their chances for a top three improve if they don't play....anyway you look at it, the leafs are in a far better situation than most teams will be in if there is no season. |

Burkes plan will come to fruition.
He avoided long term deals....he's ready to make a pitch for Clowe, Getzlaf and Perry and will have either MacKinnon, Jones or Barkov to augment his youth.

You do realize that even with 3 balls....there is a good chance you might not get a top 3 pick?
No way Anaheim lets these guys (Perry/Getz) go UFA....it's their whole offense. |

1-yes, but as I said, I believe they will have a better chance.
2-Anaheim has no choice in the matter. Perry and Getzlaf will chose their destination. |

Pretty much a guarantee that Mackinnon gets served up on a platter to the BJ's if there is a 2005 type lottery. Just like Crosby to the Pens...
Canadian teams, especially the Leafs, will continue to be the NHL's bread and butter. No need to give them any advantage. The fan base will never diminish significantly and will always throw obscene amounts of money away on tickets, concessions and merch. |

I've been thinking the same about the Oilers.
Not so much for the draft pick cause they'll only have one ball.
Year off is great for them, the kids get to play together and work on rounding out their game while staying sharp and in game shape. Basically a bonus year of development.

yet even if they are traded they do no have to sign anywhere
not to mention the clock is ticking away for anaheim... if the whole season is lost they go UFA and there is nothing the ducks can do to stop it |

Anaheim will have over 37M in cap space (if cap stays at 70M)...they will give them what ever they want, they can't afford to lose these 2 guys. I don't see them going anywhere. |

if they want to stay in the western conference.. you are making the assumption that money will be the only factor.
this isnt a pro "they're going to toronto" argument, but there is nothing guaranteeing that they stay in anaheim
a better anti toronto argument would be that both perry and getzlaf already quit playing under coach carlyle once.. and reportedly had issues with him so why the hell would they sign with the team who has him as a coach? |
