that is all well and good and like i said healthcare reform is needed... my beef is not just with the current form that is being put in place it is the way it was done.. The USA constitution was put into affect so that there were the appropriate checks and balances and spread of power so that one entitity did not get too much power and take everything over. This is precisely what is happening, healthcare reform is one of the rights of the individual state and should be handled that way, just like it was in Mass. with Romney.. The whole two party system we have reduced the country and large government is exactly what the founding father feared and it is coming true. - SabresFaninIndiana
Arguing the constitution is a turkey shoot – following it verbatim assists in any sort of lunatic arguments, based on even the mildest facts.
It’s not just the States, Canada’s constitution too. The problem with these documents is that they don’t progress with the rest of the world, so many of the constitutional rights inevitably grow stale.

and don't get me started on maternity leave.
in canada, my wife would have been given a full year of mat leave to bond with our child. and she would have been collecting approx 65% of her salary during that year on mat leave.
here in the usa, she got 3 months and had to buy disability 'insurance.' lol - hnic
if my wife were to have a child can i take a year off to take care of the child with this assitance while my wife goes back to work? |

if you want the document to progress do it within the system.. They could have easily gone about changing the constitution through ammendments prior to forcing this Bill through. The USA constitution is set up to grow and also protect the individuals it governs. Currently we are going towards mob rule directed by a few which is what this country revolted against.. It is set up to allow all areas of the country be heard not just NYC or LA.. |

good for canada to be able to financially afford that... USA can't do that, and to tell you the truth i can still see it becoming a an employment discrimination. Because if i hire you and you work here for lets say 3 years, get fully trained to do your job then go on maturnity leave for a year, i can't just manage without you for 3 months or less. I have to hire and train a new employee while you are gone, then you come back and boom i have two employees.. - SabresFaninIndiana
Discrimination is also embedded in comment. It’s nice to be an ignorant male, if you had it bad – a woman in your position has had it worse – never mind a racial or ethnic minority. Cry me a river. |

not sure if you were joking about this or not but the answer is...
yes. it's called parental leave. friends of ours took advantage of this. she took some time off and he took some off too. they basically shared the year. |

this was the quote that you put the sheep picture on.. clearly about the debt
as for the racism thing.. i am not going to get much into detail but i remember too many people saying they were going to vote for Obama becuase "it is time we have a black man in the White House" you can't tell me that is a clouded view on things. you vote for him becuase you believe he is the most qualified not because of the color of his skin. To me that is a step backwards when it comes to equality - SabresFaninIndiana
I agree, but he is qualified. I'm not asking you to give me an opinion on the nature of his qualifications. |

Yes, it's called paternity leave - either parent can take the time off depending on their unique circumstance. I'm pretty sure they can split the time between them - but don't quote me on that. |

that is fine if he is.. but people did vote for him regardless of that without looking into any further and that is the problem |

No constitutional document is “easily” reformed, in my experience it takes years – sometime decades to get it right.
“The constitution is set up to grow and also protect the individuals it governs”
Again, the constitution evolves at a snail’s pace. By the time something has been reformed it’s irrelevant (well not so dramatic, but you get the idea).
As far as “protecting the individuals it governs” I would ask which individuals? It’s clear the whole country isn’t encompassed, because of reasons stated.

You make it sound like some white people didn't vote for him because he is black. It goes both ways.
Anyway, I said I agree that racial - or group - exclusivity is wrong. |

knee jerk reaction changes to a government are just as bad as slow ones..
It protects the people of this country by letting them have a voice, it is not the fault of the governmental documents that people are greedy and the private healthcare system is flawed. It is the fault of the people failing to see it and make a change sooner |

There is than no point in mentioning Black voters chose him based on his skin, because white voters do the same thing. It’s simply irrelevant because it goes both ways. |

I said nothing that would imply my affection towards or promotion of “knee jerk” decision making. Though, I agree with your statement.
For a great number of people, yes, the constitution protects them. Mostly people are left to their own devices.

with all the i am offended by everything and am willing to sue over everything people in the USA i could see it being a problem here.. just sayin - SabresFaninIndiana
Agree. There would just be a bunch of lawsuits and a big buttpain for everyone.
I dont think anyone is saying the US is perfect by any means. There are some significant problems that do need to be addressed. HC, education, debt are some of those issues. A lot of people think the Euro social democracy model is great. But in reality its not. Its at the brink of failure in most countries. I just see Obama digging the US a deeper hole. |

lawsuits for what?
hiring a 'temp' employee who can justifiably be terminated at any time? |

People taking advantage of the system. Having a bunch of kids and getting paid for it.
Canada might be different, but I dont think its a good idea in the US for the govt to pay idiots to keep breeding. |
