I just wanted to let you know you said the ame thing yesterday but I understand your point. there is no unity it is each there own. The NHL has become a bigger joke then the Islanders so I guess that is good for us no?

I'm not a Bailey fan by any means, but he turned out better than Filatov and Boedker. I would say he's about on par with Schenn and Wilson. Hodgson is probably more skilled but had his share of injury issues. - eichiefs9
I wouldn't close the book on Boedker at all. He can flat out fly, and seemed to finally hit his stride in the playoffs this year when it mattered most. Similar to Bailey, his problem has been a crisis of confidence. Wouldn't surprise me if both of them emerged this season, although I think Boedker has the better coach and better mix in surrounding cast to help him along. |

Not closing the book on him, just saying I can't really fault Snow much for taking Bailey over him. You could make arguments that either player has been better and probably be both right and wrong. |

Ia m optimistic that they will come to an agreement this week. Iam calling it now. If I get this right I should get the majority of the vote not only over Dee but also Eklund |

Scott Mayfield, D, New York Islanders, University of Denver
I heard concerns in 2011 (during Mayfield's draft year) from scouts about his hockey sense, and that may have kept him out of the first round. However, I also heard from scouts that it was simply a matter of playing at a higher pace, something that could come with experience, and not for a lack of instinct. Mayfield was certainly behind the pace at the start of his first NCAA season, but after a few injuries and opportunities opened up playing time, his game flourished toward the end of last season. Mayfield was being used on the top PP and PK units, and was checking good players. One scout noted that Mayfield also showed impressive offensive creativity, which, combined with his elite physical game and quality mobility, makes him a very interesting prospect to watch.

so you cut players at 21??? thank god your not a general manager..why wouldn't you offer him a contract?? its not going to cost anything - NYI78
hmmm....these are points that wont be addressed...
sure EVERYONE knows it takes defensive prospects to develop more than forwards.
sure the guy has gotten bitten by really bad luck when it comes to injuries
sure A LOT of people were thinking hed make the team THIS year.
BUT these are all points that are facts...most prefer knee jerk reactions, so dont expect logic if someone disagrees with you. |

Funny that while we debate about the Isles' first-round picks, you can't really argue with the value that the organization has found with the darts they've thrown after the first round. |

Mayfield has slowly become one of my favorite prospects. He's big and loves to throw the body...I mean look at his twitter avatar for christ's sake:
I think first round picks are so easily debatable because they're high in demand/value and you expect a lot out of these kids. No doubt the Isles have really found some later-round gems. (Ok so Mayfield at 34 might not be "later round" but you get the idea) |

What is that saying: "two wrongs don't make a right" - IslesinKnow
it means if you have a 21 year old kid who you can sign and pay 80k in the minors is worth keeping under contract...god everyone is patient with bailey...give de haan until he is 24 |

I agree that he stood out and that he is a fantastic prospect (like I just mentioned, one of my favorites). I don't think he's NHL ready though. 2 more years of college, unless he puts together some sort of amazing Hobey Baker-candidate-season this year, then get him to the Bridge ASAP. |

I don't have an issue with the deHaan pick, other than questioning if his ceiling was worth all the picks we gave up to get him (and even that, I'm not going too crazy over), but I do remember seeing deHaan at the podium, then a couple of picks later seeing Kulikov up there, and thinking it might have been nice to pick the guy who looks like he'd be able to dish out some punishment rather than the one who looked like he might be evading it. Not sure of the point I'm even making, to be honest...but I will say I'll never beat up Snow for taking Reinhart or even Nino. It's nice to see the Isles pick some players who look like they might be dislocating other people's shoulders for a change! |

Dehaan was a great pick at the time, he was highly coveted in Canadian junior hockey circles. I still think he'll pan out but his injuries have to be concerning. |

3 major ones in 3 years definitely has me worried. One Milan Lucic hit on the forecheck and his shoulder might disintegrate.
I never hated the pick, but I would've really liked Rundblad or Kulikov...and Erixon but I realize he wasn't as highly touted at draft time as he is now. |

I would have loved Toews over Jordan Staal. It's just so hard to look back on things like that. Hindsight is 20/20. Nobody could have guessed Kulikov would have such a smooth transition, although he does impress me everytime i see him play. |

Everything i read said he was a reach and most were shocked the Isles selected him. I didn't hear of anyone saying it was a good pick? Exactly what is happening now to him was a concern. Clearly remember him being described as fragile in some mag? Maybe THN? Don't remember. Wasn't happy with the pick since they made it. I wanted Kassian who hasn't faired so well either so my pick doesn't hold much credence either but then again it's not my job. |

Totally agree that it's easy to look back and say "woulda, coulda, shoulda". I do think he was a bit of a reach at the time, in fact I remember being at the draft party that year and having the ecstasy of the Tavares pick kind of wear off and saying "What the hell is that about?" when they announced the pick.
Looking back at the TSN feed from the day McKenzie and McGuire pretty much said he was a great player, a bit of a reach, but needed to up his strength. |
