Why are you ladies wasting your time talking about a Luongo trade, when something much more exciting has just come on the radar:
Craig Leipold is going to sell the Minnesota Wild, buy the Phoenix Coyotes, and move them to Milwaukee.
Mr. Leipold doesn't know it yet, but Unholy Goalie has assured me it is as good as done.
Morning, everyone. |

Toronto should be the easiest place to attract a superstar.Get rid of that Dinosaur Burke.
Bring in Luongo and build around him. Franson and Gardiner are good starts on the D . JVR will help too. No need to tank. Getzlaf and Perry are UFAs next year. Trade for them this year. - VANTEL
If the leafs were to acquire Luongo, that is not a start "Build around", its a way to try to stay in the middle of the pack and hope for playoffs. 35 year old players are not what you start with anymore.
If Getzlaf and Perry are the targets, I would think Burke would help in luring them to Toronto.
Big name Free agents do not want to come here anymore, why would they when all teams are offering the same money for much less pressure. Its not like the 90's anymore where Toronto can outspend everyone. Minnesota and Nashville are signing 100 million dollar contracts too.

those franchises are nothing more than tax write offs.
lose value... yeah that sucks.. but its still better than losing money
you just watch.. the owners have far more time to sit and wait... the players have a shelf life.. the owners do not. - Dozzer
The difference the way I understand it is approx. $500 million over the course of a 5 year CBA. that amounts to $16.67 million per team. Their going to cancel a season for $16.7 million per team?? |

Read and learn, faceboy. The owners of the weak franchises don't mind the lockout because they don't have to pay anyone. They MAKE money by not playing as they still get paid the tv contract money from NBC.

Agreed, they are all far richer than the NHL owners, so if they couldn't outlast Fehr, you think the NHL with its shaky franchises in the US will? Doubt it - faceto27
I think that those who operate at a loss don't mind not paying the players for a year. |

I seen Colborne and doubt he will be anything great. Reimer will probably back up Schneider this year only and be replaced by Lack next year. It is basically Luongo for a salary dump. - VANTEL
Here's the thing about Colborne, though: he's a big centre.
Even if there is a one in a bajillion chance of him developing into a #1, he's still the best chance the Leafs have right now.
We can't trade him. |

When the team starts winning the FA's will come.
How will they win?
Draft some stars, sign some stars or trade for some stars.
How will they sign or trade for some stars if they aren't winning and don't have any stars themselves?
Oh poop we should have drafted well.
Miss more playoffs.

without those markets you dont get a major TV deal in the states. - Dozzer
There's no major TV deal to be had, there never has been and there never will be. Pipe dream!!! And they know it. This has been talked about for the better part of 20 years, not gonna happen my friend. What did NBC offer them, 200 million? (peanuts) |

They don't right now, because the team sucks.
But when the Leafs are winning, there isn't a better place in the world to play.
I've said it before, I'll type it again: the Leafs need to get good before they can get great. Make the playoffs, steal a round, and have upcoming UFAs take notice of the hockey madness in the town. |

Thats the order I would go with, 2013 and 2014 drafts look as good as any to try to fine the next center to lead us back to respectability. At least Sundin and Gilmour overlapped... the gap from Sundin to whoever is getting to large

We all know the NHL owners and Bettman are fair and wouldn't cheat what rightfully belongs to the players
http://www.cbc.ca/sports/.../24/sp-nhlpa-pension.html - LeafMan
lol this only strengthens my point
my whole point is the owners are greedy bastards.. so are the players.. but the owners are in a better position to be greedy bastards... once everyone starts to figure this out then we will see progress |

If you look at every championship team recently, they have at least one superstar and three stars. We have a few stars like Kessel and Phaneuf (Even with his faults). Need that superstar.

NBC, fans , new HNIC contract next year. - VANTEL
NBC pays out the contract and the NHL would have to pay them back at the end of the deal for missed games
NBC pressure doesnt really hit home til 2021
and CBC?!
the NHL knows damn well they will come back.. HNIC is their only reputable program lol |

I hope this happens - it would limit the Cap space Toronto has to make moves by adding Lou's salary, they would lose a good young player (Kadri or Colbourne) and Lou doesn't seem to be the goalie he was even a couple of seasons ago - still a huge upgrade for Toronto in net and he will be their best player - who knows a move might do him good but something about him doesn't say franchise goalie like it once did. - tuna99
You have JVR Kadri Gardiner Franson Frattin Biggs . How many more good young players do you need?
Look at the oilers they have tanked the last 5 years and still are 5 years away from making some noise.
You need experience to accompany the youth . |
