Thats basically Luongo for Colborne and Reimer .. and swap players we dont want for players we dont want.
Truth is I would not swap Colborne for Luongo straight up
My offer would be Komi and Reimer - senstroll
Then Lu would be playing on CBJ .
Maybe you don't want Luongo but Burke does. And after the Marlies first two games this year Scrivens looks like crap so Leafs need goaltending. |

I wouldn't have any issue with the proposed retirement clause the way it's written. |

LTIR . Players with long term contracts would not retire, they would get bumped in practice and have concusion like symptoms for years driving up the rates of insurance for the players still playing.
There are loopholes for everything.

Question for all the Leaf fans.......
If Markham does indeed get a team, would you switch your allegiance to them or do you just plain and simple bleed blue and white?
I live close to Markham, but because I've rooted for the Leafs for 40 years, I could never switch. - faceto27
Never could I switch. I grew up in Pickering but now live in the thick of it so I have a fondness for the east side but NEVER could I switch.
I would watch a lot of their games, probably even go to one or two to watch some hockey and check out the new arena etc etc. But I would be strictly a leafs fan.
Now that I think about it, you would have a lot of fence sitters for the first 5 years or so and the relationship between Markham and Toronto fans would probably be amicable, but I think after that lines would start to be drawn and there would be some serious hate. I welcome it.

Here are the big trigger points........
First will be the US thanksgiving. NBC planning a big day of hockey to kick off their television schedule of games. If NHL cancels that day, it won't be good. The next biggie would be the Winter Classic, if that gets canceled, then I think the season is toast.
The NBA last year was in the same situation at this time of the year, then magically everything came together so that the big Xmas day broadcast of games could still be shown.
US Thanksgiving is going to be very important. |

I still think the NHLPA has a back up plan (as per Tony Gallagher). Once the NHL announces the cancelled season they will form a small league of 8 to 10 teams playing in arenas of 5 000 for a 40 game schedule or something. He said that it was in place under Goodenow and thinks it can happen very soon after this season is cancelled. |

100% incorrect.
the owners will keep making money because honestly.. their hockey clubs arent their primary assets.
if i was an owner i would just tight and wait.. shelf hockey til the players agree to my terms... doesnt cost anything to sit idle. for the owners with venues rebook the dates with concerts, etc.
the bulk of the players will start to run out of cash which will cause internal strife within the union.. then they will start to fall apart.
what does that cost the owners? public image? nobody feels bad for them anyways, nothing to lose. |

That is just wrong.
The NHL should be more concerned about teams and fans hoping to lose so they can get an extras lottery ball than if some team found a loophole . Tor fans are more worried that the Hawks have given Hossa a twelve year deal instead of five more years of finishing in the bottom five.
That is a true statement of the shape of the game. |

The owners can and will outwait the players. As you've mentioned, they didn't get rich owning a hockey franchise. They were filthy rich far before they bought the team. |

thats hilarious.. how much money do they think they are going to make?
wont sign off on the CBA and then go and make even less money in a league that none of the players would even try that hard in..
its nothing more than a threat.. just stupid posturing trying to get the owners to crack. |

disagree Dozzer........ Not a snowballs chance in hell do the owners cancel another season.
That would be SUICIDE for the league in the US. It will always come back in Canada, but it would not survive again in the US.
Bettman's grand plan from the time he started was to increase the exposure via expansion to the south. He finally has a TV contract, somewhat, and NBC is planning its kickoff with a big splash the day after the US Thanksgiving. The Winter Classic is a huge ratings boost for the NHL and NBC. If you think Bettman is going to jeopardize all that, then think again.
MLB is the only league without a Cap. That is because Fehr would not back down. The players hired Fehr not to back down.
NOT A CHANCE, Bettman cancels the season.

Sorry I have to disagree.
The Last CBA the NHL held all the cards. Bettman said my way or the Highway. He had no pressure to anything except sit and wait.
THis year he has the pressure of losing the fans.
He has the pressure of losing the NBC contract.
He has the pressure of the NHLPA being more prepared .
He has the pressure of losing his job and losing the NHL.
The NHLPA can start their own league. Not on the grand scales of the NHL but they can fire up something in no time. |
