Given the number of good defensemen available in the 1st round of the previous draft, I was surprised they didn't trade down a little for a kings ransom and draft a potential #1 D.

14 points in 10 games as a d-man, not too shabby.

The only guy in the top-10 with more impressive numbers is Yakupov(given that he's playing in an actual pro-league). Do you really see Burke taking a Russian 1st overall?

Obviously there's more to hockey than the offensive numbers. But when the d-man you took is outproducing most of the forwards in the draft... that's a pretty good sign.

The only guy who is obviously better than Rielly in the draft is Yakupov. Do you see Burke taking a Russian 1st overall?

Burke values character... the fact that Yakupov ditched his junior team to go back to Russia doesn't do any favours to how his character is perceived, either. Rielly looks to be the best offensive d-man in the draft, that alone gives validity to Burke's statement. Being the best at any position will get you looks at the top.

Faksa is probably the future Peca. Tlusty and Earl would have been stars if Peca had mentored them. Faksa is the greatest.
