It's a mess, my simple post yesterday resonated with people, the game has been ruined. - LeafMan
its salvagable tho
we have seen this happen more than a few times in pro sports.. the people running the league get too big for their britches and the owners finally get fed up with the inconsistency and fire their chairman.
the replacement comes in with good intentions and cleans the mess up before delving into his own version of corruption.
big money business.. oh how charming it is. |

It would probably just take months to convince them that Bill Daly and Steve Fehr are not legitimate candidates for the job. - Cfser

Well Moe (Bettman) and Curly (Daly) are too busy playing the defend the eye gauge game, so bushkorn can't to any worse, we will call him Shemp.
Forgot Larry (Jacobs) sitting around thinking of stupid quotes he can give. |

I'd rather watch you watch the Victoria Royals game. - AdamFrench
Good game on Wed night, Moose pulled it off in the 3rd with a 5 goal run. No defence, poor goaltending,,,,,but all in all not a bad game.
Better than the NHL currently. |

Any Leaf fan that doesn't want Luongo better also hope for a mini tear down of this team... With Luongo the Leafs are playoff contenders, without they area bottom 5 team in the east.
If a deal can't get done for Luongo I say start moving out some guys and draft high for a few years. Clearly Burke will not do this but it's what makes most sense. |

Don't want to see Luongo in Toronto, but if he comes, it'll be due to this idea that the Leafs will be off the hook, for his salary, if he retires. Maybe that's what makes this deal possible. |

With Donny at the controls of the NHLPA, this could be a long stand-off.
He can make any offer look great, or like crap. It is all how you present the information. |

Yes, please. I've been calling and hoping for a proper rebuild since the JFJ era. If initiated back then and done properly we'd be in a much better place right now. |

Under the current or any league's rules the Leafs would be off the hook for his salary if he retires. That's what retiring means - you stop playing and you stop getting paid to play |

not under the most recent NHL proposal
any contract over 5 years in length stays on the cap of the team who originally signed the player when said player retires.
its the NHLs way of punishing the execs who took advantage of a loop hole in the last CBA |
