Still a few weeks away.

But the actual tap got installed today on the granite counter top.

Oh, baby.

Like I said, there are 30 teams in the League. Will you be getting that anytime soon?
- MJL

Hold up there Sparky,

Obviously, the Owners of richer teams really are only thinking of their own teams. That's one of the topp reasons why were in a lockout.
- MJL

... and you are asking me if I understand that there are 30 teams?

Are you even aware, from post to post, which point you are discussing. I think you are on the verge of quoting and gainsaying yourself.

They also happen to be the ones who can sweat it out the longest, as well as the ones who can most swiftly recover.

But they are the least motivated to not be playing right now

But a lost season will also mean a loss of profits for the teams that actually make money -- referred to in the world of business as "non-basket case teams".
I think those profits came to about $250 million last year.

The franchises that are actually carrying this league must be delighted at the prospect of losing that kind of profit so that Gary can fight for a % or two of revenue share. Does Gary work for these owners too? I bet they go to bed reassured that Bettman only needs 8 owners to veto any deal he doesn't like.

This situation has existed for a while. The owners could have changed it going into this thing. They didn't.

I would love to be a fly on the wall at the owner meetings.

From what I understand, the Leafs were pretty passive last time around.

I'm guessing they won't be so passive this time around.

Or maybe I'm just hoping.

Fehr doesn't like the salary cap?

Neither do I!

Yeah you also blame the lockout on the richer teams... you know, the ones with the most to lose.

- Aetherial

That is a large part of why there is a lockout, no doubt. The internal battle between the rich teams and the poor teams.

Once again, you've assumed too much.

The NHLPA wants to make it a part of the discussions.

The NHL does not.

Guess who is going to ultimately win this thing?

- Atomic Wedgie

Once again, your're incorrect. Go back and read my previous posts. You'll find that I've said the same thing. Clearly one of the biggest issues that currently separate the two sides from coming to an agreement, is that the League wants the players to foot the entire bill. While the NHLPA wants the League to increase revenue sharing, and share in ehlping out the poorer teams. I've also said multiple times that the NHLPA is aware that they are going to have to take some sort of salary cut. But unwilling to agree to do so, until the League does it's share to help out the economic picture. I've been very consistent in that viewpoint.

I have supported the PA during this entire process, but I am beginning to wonder if they are willing to get a deal done. It's time to get this done guys, step up to the plate and settle!

"each time we (the NHL) have made an offer they (The NHLPA) allow weeks to pass, yet each time they made an offer we have almost immediately countered...the last offer they gave we actually responded in a few hours to it.."

All that means to me, based upon the scenario described above, is one side is working on a compromise (the NHLPA), and the other side (the NHL) is shooting it down and telling them to come back with another, apparently better (at least for the NHL) offer.

Bravo NHL.

Here's another headline:
"The fans believe the NHL and nhlpa wasted the entire summer"

Just remember where the revenue comes from because damage has already been done. Fans should blame both sides

- Dman7

They did waste the whole entire summer,

The NHL and NHLPA meet for 2 days at a time and even then its only for 4 hours a day. Neither side is serious about getting a deal done otherwise they would be talking everyday from 8 to 4.

Talking every day from 8 to 4 would produce nothing.

Both sides know exactly where the other side stands.

It's now a siege.

You won't make any "progress" until one side (or both) softens their stance.

We haven't got there yet.

The League has already proposed enhancements to revenue sharing. I think the players and league are only about $50 million apart in the amounts that would go into revenue sharing

They still have their contracts, though. I don't think the CBA expiring voids them.
- BulliesPhan87

I am not sure about this.... I have heard that if a lockout last an entire year. It is a year burned from each contract.... Meaning.. if a player had one year left on his contract and was scheduled to be UFA next year, and we lost a season he would still be UFA and he essentially lost that last year of his contract.

How about they keep the salary cap the same but all 30 teams collude with each other and stick to a different secret salary cap?

How about they rig the books to make it look like most teams are losing money..
