NHL players under contract should NOT be allowed to play over seas, or any other league for that matter. Players in bottom level leagues who make 800-1000 a week are the ones who get hurt by the NHL players inundating other leagues pushing them out.

No.

Shouldn't be there taking other people's jobs anyways.

Players under contract during an NHL lockout benifit from playing over seas. They get to keep playing and training. If they stay home and do nothing that isnt gonna be good for theyre skills. You also cant blame the other leagues for trying to get better players when they can. They still wanna win more games. Also why alot of those leagues put a limit on how many players a team can take from North America.

What about when NHL poach players from Europe? Its okay then because the NHL is the best league. When players become available it is a teams duty to grab the best players available.

yeah i care, i care that they are saying F U to the regular players that cant get contracts over there, i care about the spots they are taking away from euro players, i care that they say "we are united" yet they jump ship the sec they have a chance, they shouldnt be allowed to go over there as it is still somewhat their fault that there is a lockout

if the players/PA showed that they were being realistic and actually trying to negotiate rather than dilly dallying and doing jack poop before the lockout, and havent had a formal meeting yet since it became official, then maybe i would feel different, but they have shown that they dont care about the fans, or the game

all they care about is the $$$

its not just the players fault, its the owners too, but the owners have shown that they are more willing to get things done as their proposals (actual not the 1st which was to get things going and just flipped the % of revenue) showed that they want to get back to hockey more than the players

By your rational, when said player goes overseas to play and gets injured, who gets hurt? The team who still has to honor that contract. Why do you think professional organizations dont want their players doing other activities that could potentially injure them. To me, this is no different....

Either way, as I mentioned, the people getting affected by this are the guys playing in the CHL making 800 a week, who no longer has a job. Noone says these guys cant get together, like they do over the summer and skate.

Did I blame the team hiring them anywhere in my post?

More players should be forming charity circuits, selling out small rinks, and bringing the game to the fans in cities that wouldn't normally get to watch.

When a player signs in the NHL, they dont do it for a few weeks, they play the season.

Wonder what the players losing their livelihood in Europe do when NHLers steal their jobs? do they go work at 7/11 until the lockout is over?

Thing is, they start doing this, it puts more pressure on the owners because they see that people will pay to watch the players even without the big bad NHL logo

Good question......its really not fair, and i dont think a player under contract should be allowed to play in another league. But, good luck enforcing that..

The players going over seas or playing in other leagues is what allows them to say phuck you to the owners. What playing overseas has done is keep the lockout going. The NHLPA has no reason to aquiesse, when the players can find work elsewhere.

In the end, we lose.......we the fans, who line the pockets of both owners and players are shafted!

A football game is literally 12 minutes of actual play....

I'm talking about the College hockey. You know? That sport they play on ice. There's nets, and a puck and 20 minutes of actual play per period? It's a great game. Unfortunately, the owners don't agree.

They have far more leagues in Europe than we have here. They will play somewhere else. Its funny that you guys would rather players stay here and do nothing. Or give you guys awsome lil rink games. You want the moon from the players. They still gotta get paid. If them going to Europe or else where is a big deal then teams should have something in contracts that prohibits them from doing so. If said teams are willing to pay them theyre money to sit at home i bet it would be diff. Not to mention how many players may not even come back because the NHL is turning into a joke. If the league is able to reduced already intact contracts i bet alot of guys arent gonna come back.

How is them going over seas to play any different than an NHL player going skiing during the season? They are under contract and risking injury. Its no different

Players are going to play in whatever league pays them the most money. Joke or not...

They are not being payed by their current employer. I am not sure the NHL could stop them.

As I said, good luck enforcing it, but its a risk. Imagine being an NHL team and having your star player get hurt playing overseas? That player would still be paid once the lockout ends.......but not be of service.

Europe is mostly for the elite players, out of 700+ players in the NHL, there are more than 600 players staying at home not making money, eager to see the lockout end.
