HRR is a misleading term. It is in fact ...
A decent read:
http://www.cbc.ca/sports/...ckey-related-revenue.html
For those of you who didn't pay attention in math class (raising my hand, too), HRR is a net number, ie. revenue minus costs. And in the now-expired CBA, teams were able to deduct certain amounts from HRR before the players were given their share.
If you go to Article 50 in the 2005 CBA, you can find all of these direct costs. While sources were reluctant to provide exact numbers, it appears the deducted amounts (yes, the jet fuel and massages) were getting closer and closer to the maximums -- probably hitting them -- during recent seasons. Here are some other examples:
CONCESSIONS
Concessions is a major revenue generator for teams and, by extension, for players. Clubs are allowed to deduct 54 per cent towards their costs. Some might not deduct that much; others may go over. But the league-wide average cannot exceed 54.
...
So many people are confused about what 57% of HRR really is.
Players are not getting 57% of revenue. |

Just give another league some covereage intsead. I'll watch AHL or college. This league does not deserve to exist and these bums need to get real jobs like the rest of us then. There's a line of people happy to take their place for alot less. |

Ovechkin and Nash clearly dont seem to remember what happened the last time the NHLPA missed a full season. - Alexzanki
Nash used to be our boy here in Columbus, of all teams had to go to the Rangers (I am an Islander fan). I could care less what he says now... or any of the disgruntaled millionares. I will do my best to forget this league and players as quickly as possible for good if they cancel the hole season. |

Yes this is getting to the point were I don't give a poop about the players or the owners, the people that rely on arena jobs are getting hit and could possibly cause them to lose their homes no player or owner is risking that so they should keep playing while they resolve their problems so the people that need the jobs can survive. |

nope this season is done. They will not end this in time enough to save anything. Prob looking at middle of next year before it is done. Dont get your hopes up, players are feeling the same way. Done and Done. |

yeah, it's funny to hear the players talk about doing this to secure their futures and looking for a bit of sympathy. as for anyone affected by collateral damage, people just trying to make ends meet? too (frank)ing bad, go (frank) yourselves.
they're both--owners and players--disgusting pigs. |

Not only are they costing people jobs for each organization they are taking other players jobs in other leagues. Owners and players both thinking of themselves. |

So let's say they do cancel or lose this entire season, how many teams do you think will have to fold? ther ewas $180,000 000 in signing bonuses that has to be paid out. Phoenix will be out for sure. |

But, but, but you made everything sound so Positive yesterday....
Missing another year is just what the league needs to get rid of it's dead weight...
The 3rd & 4th line guys on those teams in jeopardy of being contracted should be very concerned for their NHL careers...
Gary hold fast and wait the players out. Come back with a league of 24 teams. Have a dispersal draft to plug in the top guys from the 6 MIA teams and allow unlimited one time waivers to facilitate the new players going to their new teams...
Great for the owners cause majority of teams will be finacially sound, fans get to see great hockey...To the fans of the teams that are chopped sorry but your the reason for these lockouts...Good Riddance - tmlfan17

Eklund: Players Saying Full Season Will Be Lost Out of Frustration (Concession?) - Eklund
Given pre-season games are cancelled - and associated revenue lost, I am sure the owners want to return the favour and hurt the players in the pocketbooks, specifically, nothing will get done before the first payday has come and gone (3rd week of October).
So sit back, tweak your hockey pool teams over and over, have a few beers, and enjoy the start of the new TV season. |

I wonder what the nhlpa would think about a tiered cut back/pay cut
<1mill no cut back
1-3mill 5%
3-5mill 7%
5+ 10%
Numbers are made up but you get the point - dmarsden2988
Would be an interesting way to split the union, like the NHLPA is trying to split the owners.
Clever. |

They are getting 57% of the mutually agreed upon HRR.

I just want to throw out the idea that defining terms (i.e. Defining what HRR is) is NOT a concession of any sort on the part of the owners. A concession would be a comprimise or trade-off.
It is good that they have decided what HRR is, and will help them come to an agreement. Who knows when that will be though. |

With this current lockout, the NHL is almost ensuring that growth of the league in the States will come to a halt and attendance will fall dramatically.
I have no faith in this league because no matter when they sign the new CBA, we will then be 6 to 7 years away from the next lockout.
Once they start playing again I will be there rooting for my team but after this, I don't see myself becoming as emotionally invested as I was in the past. |
