Well lets take this last draft for a minute. Sameulsson was one I said was a first rounder against the rankings based on what Oiler's scout Stu Macgregor said several times. Everyone here ridiculed me for it. But the moral of the story here is he was a first rounder he had a long play-off run with the WHL champions Oil Kings and his size. All of which affected his final ranking.
Now if Lazar who has broken Crosby's records in the Canada Winter Games as a younger player put's up say a 75-80 points season with the kings then he prolly end up a top ten pick. But if as a 17yr old kid put on say an inch or two and gets 80+ points a season then top five pick. We can only wait until I prove you guys wrong again.

- longbottom

Samuelsson had a great playoff, which, yes did affect his draft ranking. Canada Winter Games mean very little.

Again playing for the Oil Kings doesn't equate to Lazar being a consesus top ten pick. The team does not make the player. Ryan Murray didn't exactly shoot the lights out last year and played on a crappy Silvertips team and still managed to be drafted 2nd overall.

Go back and read the thread to get the whole conversation...then place your comments...
- OilHorse

I read the Conversation with you basically calling him a troll. I put in my two cents on the first part he said that Hall should have been ranked #4 based on his opinion. That is what is wrong with the people in this thread. You say something contrary to the opinion of the guys in this thread they are either Trolls or Idiots. Well guess what I took his comments in the grain they were intended. Now move along and try to pick a new thread to chat about.

Now when the season started he (Ryan) was concensius #1 and had enough skill to stay top two. Saying Lazar at this point when not even one game this season is played based on his 16 yr old season last year like you guys are is really well stupid. Going on the ranking of guys who have had more picks wrong than right because they base his ranking on the season before like I said is Stupid. Couterier was concenius #1 when RNH was picked #1 because as a 16 yr he had a good season and his size yet he fell to what #8. You notice they change the ranking each quarter of the season because the players either drop due to injury nor not improving on their 16yr old season, or up due to good play. But as a fan to say definatly this player isnt a top ten pick or a top five pick because they just go by the ranking is wrong.

Edit I sure like the fact almost everyone of you hassled me about saying Rienhart was a top 5 pick. Not bad going at number 4 and being considered with Murray as top defenseman last year by Macgregor. I base most of my opinions on what he says not some blogger. Macgregor has admitted when questioned about the top 5 picks this season so far, that Lazar in his mind was definatly top 5-10. If the Oil Kings go long into Mem Cup will Definatly affect his ranking.

The part about him breaking Crosby's records at the Canada Games is just showing he has talent that many people are not giving him credit for. His size can go up this year as a lot of teenagers do continue to grow till they are in their early 20's. But people here don't figure that in because it's not a black and white statement on the Internet............lmao go figure. What everything you read on the Internet not true .......don't say it so joe.

I thought he was in next game, but I will defer and say he missed 2...obviously the point is that Oiler players lose credibility due to injury but other players don't it seems.
- OilHorse

Yeah he missed the next one against the Blues as well (I think that one was on the 19th of Jan)... Injury occurred on the 17th if I remember correctly.

Yup.

As an oilers fan, i love that you make an effort to blog about something everyday (whether it has much or less about the team).

On a side note, Justin Timberlake was part of N'sync.. but Im not sure if you ment to mess that up

are we seeing a pattern here??..LB thinks griffin reinhart, curtis lazar and henrik samuelsson all rule!!...hmm bias?? nah

also, u didnt prove anyone wrong of anything...ever.

what if the players who already actually happen to be in the top 5 also grow and have huge seasons??

no one ever said its not possible he (lazar) gets into the top 5 . just that hes not (as u suggested he was earlier) currently there.

in your scenario everything goes perfect for lazar, while it doesnt for the actual top 5'ers.
and this would vindicate u how exactly??

no. yakupov was always number 1. wrong.

no one is arguing its not at all possible he moves up.
just that u were wrong when u said hes top 5. at the moment, hes not. fact

u didnt say reinhart top 5, u said the oilers should take reinhart.
at 1 overall thats a joke. wrong again.

you're the one who originally attacked buddy for saying lazar wasnt in the top 5..which he isnt.
not the other way around.

Yes those are the four that need be debated. If the draft were redone today I would suggest the Oilers revised order would be:

Seguin
Fowler
Skinner
Hall

I understand it is highly subjective but a winning team needs a #1 Dman and the Oilers may have remedied the problem. Dmen come along far more slowly. Fowler has the potential to break out. He may not be as good as Karlsson in Ottawa. But, he will likely be better than Carlsson of the Caps. He is shooting for a pretty high standard.

Longbottom, it is painful to read your posts. Therefore I'm not gonna quote one of them so they show up again. The simple fact is that, as of right now, Lazar is on the edge of the top 10. You cannot argue this fact. Obviously things will change based on how this season goes, poop he could potentially go up to #1, who knows. But the fact is as of now, that's where he is.

LMAO you are one of the fine fellows that thought Rienhart was a 10-15 pick last year and Sameulsson was a second rounder. Maybe if you listened to someone that is a real scout rather than someone that lives in the east and looks at things thru the Internet. Also I do have a little more info on the Oil King as i watch them listen to the games and to the people involved with them and the Oiler's. But unfortunatly you live in B.C. and would rather get you information second hand. Oh well your loss.
My scenerio with Lazar is only that way because the regular season hasn't started yet and unfortunatly haven't had the time to track the Oil Kings Pre season.
You see I do track the prospects of the Oilers and the upcoming prospects of the Oil Kings and Rebels on the computer, been that way since I lived in Camrose and realized it was cheaper to see games at the Red Deer Centrium than at just watch Pro games.

That enables you to have a good idea of who the top Oil King players are (and maybe some of the teams they play often), but it doesn't really give you a great indication of how well players on other teams/in other leagues are.

Huh?

Just listening to eastern media?? Im farther west than u are genious.
We have junior hockey in vancouver and bc as well.. Just sayin.

So you're saying that none Of those rankings ( which all currently have him on the edge or lower than top 10) are based on 'real' scouts opinions?

And you're also admitting that u almost exclusively follow the rebels and the oil kings? And thus mostly ignorant of the other 250 prospects?
Wouldnt that be the definition of hypocricy when u also comment on the bias of eastern media?

But good point i guess....
