Maybe I am wrong, But i feel like other fans from teams across the country feel that long Island is poop area to live because they here about how much of a crap hole the Coliseum is, so in turn the feel all of Long Island is much like that of the Coliseum. Hell I think even some of the players feel that way. Look at Nabokov. I feel like Lubo might actually consider staying here once he sees what LI can offer.

There are plenty of bad arenas in good areas. It happens. That's not what drives players away necessarily. It's when you hear many, many, many negative things coming out of the NYI Organization. Whether it be Nabokov's antics over the last year, perpetual losing, bad contracts soaking up money, less than favourable sized fan base.
I mean, there is just too much to list. But losing franchises that don't have an ace in the hole, a saving grace? It leads to the problems that the Islanders, the Leafs, the Flames, the Blue Jackets and so on deal with. Have to spend more money to attract outside talent, rely on almost perfect drafting or (Perpetual) tanking and getting the best player in the draft. But how many teams have done that and still fail?
Nothing is full proof. But getting a new arena in a better location and building the land around said arena? Commercial development, rapid expansion, attracts a fan base. At least that will give a team some leverage over 14 other losing franchises.
