They cant? And here i thought going after a guy like Viznovsky because they only pay him 3 million on a 5.4 cap hit was just that.....
- kindlyrick

They didn't negotiate that contract. They were fortunate enough to acquire it. Im not suggesting that the Islanders don't want to nickel and dime player contracts, but they can't because of the Salary Floor requirement. They must reach the floor. Getting back to the main point, they're not going to low-ball a guy like Matt Martin, who they see as part of the future, over a couple hundred grand. That's not going to hold up his signing.

I get that he is a team player I get it that he has skills and COULD be better I get all of that but still he is not the best player I have ever seen and he never will be that player. He is your average player. He is young I want the Islanders to resign him but I am not going to go nuts if they dont. Like I said players like him ar a dime a dozen
- kasperrko

Goons are a dime a dozen. Martin has for the most part delivered clean, effective hits on people which throws other teams off their games and is entertaining, remember I know we are Islander fans so sometimes we forget but we watch this sport to be entertained. Plays a decent defensive game and has some offensive skills more so then a regular goon. Disagree with you here.

I applaud you for your glass is half full attitude, but im gonna have to disagree and say that they are low balling Matt Martin. The same way they tried low balling him when they drafted him telling him he was a third round pick and didnt deserve first round money, when he CLEARLY was physically ready to play in the NHL.

It was.

Other than that I'm trying to gauge who's #1 in this argument...

I know that was weak but there was no way I was not finding a way to use this picture somewhere once I saw it.

He does and does so effectively. To label the kid as a goon or compare him to Boulton shows a complete lack of hockey knowledge. He is well worh 1.5 mil and I'll go as far as saying close to two on a short term contract.
