Wang is a nut job. Martin will be the next player alienated by his lunacy. - Cptmjl
Wang is the biggest idiot, but Snow loves Matt Martin, and there is nothing going on, I think/believe Snow is waiting on the Viz hearing, bc if Viz is on the team, the Isles are closer to the cap floor, then with MM signing and bonuses, will reach the cap floor. If Viz is not on the team, then Snow has alot of salary cap to make up.
I do believe Snow & MM have an understanding/agreement with each other already.

Sounds great but there is no understanding other than this. Mat Martin led the entire NHL in hits and wants to get paid. The isles are cheap and dont wanna spend. Hence he's not signed. The only understanding is that they each feel MM is worth a different number. Don't forget his ELC |

He led the league in hits.. a stat that doesn't mean a whole hell of a lot to anyone but the fans.

These bunch of idiots are really going to screw up whatever momentum the NHL had as far as popularity goes. Same thing they did in 95' when the games popularity was at a all time high - Cptmjl

Furthermore, I love how Charles Wang likes to play hardball with his own players (if they don't sign by training camp they sit out the entire season) but lets guys like Nabokov, and viznovsky get away with publically embarrassing his team. Which is it wanger.....do we only play tough guy when it's convenient? - kindlyrick
Why are people freaking out about Matt Martin not being signed yet? There isn't even a new CBA in place. The season isn't starting on time. Martin will be signed to a fair deal he and the team will agree on. He's an RFA, he's going nowhere. If Martin gets his panties all bunched up because he wasn't signed fast enough, then he needs to grow up and get over it. Its called "business". |

I want to get paid too. That doesn't mean squat. You are worth what the market dictates and MM's market sucks because he's an RFA. He will become a UFA soon enough. I don't know how much anyone expects MM to see in a raise because he hits lots of people. That's great. But he skates on the fourth and sometimes third line for a reason. MM is a nice player, probably part of this team's core going forward. But he's got to be realistic as to what his value is and what his bargaining position is. |

He actually isnt at all worried about the process.. but some fans on the other hand.. they see this as the ultimate disrespect.

No the Yashin jersey is hanging in the game room... and leading the league in hits really isn't that big a deal... sorry.

Leading the league in hits, does not merit on getting paid.
He has progressed as a player, and deserves a raise,
but he's not getting paid |

I don't think most fans see it that way though you may perceive they do. After what happened with Bergenheim and Wang Chung fans are a little apprehensive about Martin and rightfully so. How do you know Martin isn't worried about the process? You throw it out there so I'll ask. |

What are you talking about. The islanders are the softest team in the league. Matt Martin did his job and did it well. It's not his fault he was buried on the 4th line. He still went out and played the body every single game. To me, that should be rewarded with an extension. To me, you should reward your guy for setting an example. Who are they rewarding with extensions. Grabner, Okposo??? This is what gets extended? Guys who don't play the body?
You say, yeah it's great he plays the body, but should he get a raise because of that?
The answer Jethro is yes he should. Even if it's a multi year deal with a small monetary raise. He's part of the core. He's homegrown. |

On a team that gets its nuts kicked in every night it is a very big deal. Why is Martin all of a sudden not a big deal anymore? Strange? |
