Eric Engels: Habs Blueline Holds Key to Improvement

engels, in appreciation of your efforts to make this a hockey thread, i'll try and stay on topic. from page 1.

1) what is the holdup with subban? to me, it's about term. the canadiens want him to follow suit with price and pacioretty on a 2 year deal post entry level. that seems obvious. what is also obvious is that subban is a core player like price and pacioretty so he probably is looking at their deals and saying.....
but who will blink first? subban is holding no cards here so i'm wondering what leverage he and his agent think they have.

2) diaz should not be traded only because with this group of dmen, depth is an asset. i don't want to see beaulieu, tinordi or ellis until they've had a full season in hamilon.

3) frankie boo and emelin will provide the only toughness this d group will have. that in itself is a scary thought.

4) i think markov is still an unknown quantity. you know he will be a marked man all season long. every chance the opposition has to hammer him, they will. the best we can hope for is that he stays healthy, plays near the level we remember he can and then trade him for a very good asset.

5) ifs are for hindsight scientists and dreamers. which one are you? because in my opinion, they both have no relevence to the present.

ok. that's my hockey contribution to this thread. we now return to our regular program.

I'm not engels, but if I may?

If I was Habs management, I would have a tough time opening the vault for "potential". That's likely the hold up.

2) diaz should not be traded only because with this group of dmen, depth is an asset. i don't want to see beaulieu, tinordi or ellis until they've had a full season in hamilon.

Agree, said this morning.

3) frankie boo and emelin will provide the only toughness this d group will have. that in itself is a scary thought.

The Habs got a little bigger up front, but ya the d is still pretty soft.

4) i think markov is still an unknown quantity. you know he will be a marked man all season long. every chance the opposition has to hammer him, they will. the best we can hope for is that he stays healthy, plays near the level we remember he can and then trade him for a very good asset.

If he plays near the level all year, healthy and as we remember, keep him.

5) ifs are for hindsight scientists and dreamers. which one are you? because in my opinion, they both have no relevence to the present.

I'm not an if'er, but I do dream of a red Ferrari some day.
