I think if the team can manage to stay healthy he will do better. |

I will be happily suprised if he can reproduce his magic with Sultzer. I think he will have at least as good of a year as he had last year, if he can stay healthy. |

Kevin Freiheit: Will this season be better or worse for Christian Ehrhoff? - KevinJames
I'm not trolling...there is just nothing else to read but other teams blogs. But signing Erhoff to a 10yr deal with a NMC and a modified NTC was just crazy to begin with. While he might have a low cap hit of 4 million, you can only consider that low if he gets back to producing like he did for Van. If he doesn't return to form then he is significantly overpaid. To top everything off, you had to give him 10 million last year. I just don't see how, to this point, anyone can suggest this was a great signing. |

You can say he was a great signing because he will still produce at a good level. A 4 million dollar cap hit is pretty good for a player of his caliber. It's funny how some people are judging his signing based on one year of injuries not only to himself but most of his team. |

If you watched the Sabres last year, the team's performance when he was in the lineup versus when he wasn't was night and day. It was like Derek Roy only the exact opposite. |

I hear what you are saying....but that's the only sample size we have, I have no choice but to base it on one year. After next season, if there is one, we can all reasses the deal. Until then all I know is that he had one terrible season, albeit no worse than anyone else on the team I suppose. That being said he still earned 10 million in real dollars. Those dollars mean nothing to you and I, but from a franchise perspective it must have been disappointing. While I'm sure it didn't affect the bottom line of your owner, he won't benefit from those "cheap" 1 million dollar seasons on Erhoff's contract for another 6 years or so. |

I think if we didnt give him the money someone else would have so its not like we grossly overpaid. I think hell continue to improve the longer he is here. Hes improved from the first year to the next on the other 2 stops so I would think hell improve. |

It is not as if Erhoff was a rookie. He has a body of work in his career that makes him worth his deal. The 10 million was more than necessary to acquire his services because Buffalo is not the dream destination for free agents much to our dismay. Also this deal gives us a reasonable cap hit so we can still have some flexibility down the line to resign out younger guys as well as free agents. |

Probably their best signing in years. He will become a valuble peice of this team when they are ready to step it up. I look for bigger numbers this year in addition to better powerplay production. |

You are so very right I cant think of the last big signing we had, everyone we get is though trades.
Leo and Teppo are really the only ones worth mentioning |

Part of the problem was that he was signed after having a career year, on the best regular season team in the league. 14G and 50pts. Signing him for 10 years until he is 39, after a career year seemed like a long time. That being said in todays NHL a 4 million cap hit isn't very much. If he can get back to consistenly producing an average of 40-45 pts nobody will complain, but I don't see him doing that for the next 9 seasons. |

If he can do it for the next 5 years I am happy. You think of the salaries being dished out today and he is IMO a bargain. He may not match that career year but he will be a solid point producing player. |

Who cares about how much he is making As long as the Sabres are winning you can pay him 1 billion dollars over 40 years. This whole production vs salary is such a tired subject. The Blackhawks won the cup despite paying Campbell an ass ton of money and his low production. |

THIS
We are not GM's, nor the ones cutting the checks. The only time we should gripe about a guys pay is when the contract is so bad it sets the franchise back, IE see Rick Dipietro. |

Well every team should worry about what a player is paid. I'm not suggesting you worry about actual dollars per year ie: 10 million is one season vs 1 million in another, but you should alway consider actual cap hit. The blackhawks did win despite Campbell, but only because some of their best players were making 1 mil a year in Kane and Twoes, they subsequently blew up their team the following season. Teams like Ottawa are paying their best players 6 and 7 mil a year, so unless you have outstanding players in rookie contracts or 2nd level contracts, it's very difficult to content for the cup. Paying Erhoff 4 mil a year isn't a big deal unless he is scoring 4 G and 30pts, then you start to worry. He is a guy the Sabres expect bigger numbers out of. But his situation is no different than many others teams, we all have guys that are overpaid based on their current production. I just don't see why everyone has to defend the contract, if it's bad, then just admit it, no big deal. If he turns it around this year, then the potential is there to consider the deal a great signing, just hasn't happened yet. |

Sure. I expect around 45-55 points from Ehrhoff. More importantly the Sabres need his presence on the ice, whether or not he puts up points. They did not win many games without him.

He had 32 points in 66 games. He was pretty beat up last year plus with the injuries to the rest of the team he was not able to mesh as well as if they were healthy. In no way is this a bad contract. That belongs to Ville Leino, who we are more worried about than Erhoff. |
