Considering how you act on here, that was actually a pretty appropriate response. You get a juicebox. - nfph

The Red Wings agree. They've always had guys that can dish it out, but they primarily kill you with speed and puck possession.
They also have like 1/2 of Europe playing for them. - nfph
yeah they been an awesome franchise. i wondering how good they will be with all they have lost now |

i like that buffalo has some grit on a scoring line. remember at the end of the season last year they had:
leino roy pommer
tropp coho vanek
foligno ennis stafford
wonder if we do that again this year? |

I'd be ok with them entering a rebuild honestly. |

Yes definitely.
a) it's a new season
b) it's ruff
c) they played together for under 20 games, it's not like we're talking about the French Connection here
d) sorry guys, but Foligno may regress scoring-wise. He's played 14 NHL games.
e) ott brings a lot of what Foligno brings but with more experience.
Know that'll be an unpopular opinion but I'm not going to get too excited about Foligno until he's shown some consistency over a much longer body of work. He overacheived on his offensive expectations last year, which is awesome. I hope he keeps it up, but I don't buy high, either. - nfph
no doubt last year could be "lightning in a bottle"...but that was a helluva storm...
should we expect the same numbers? no
will that line garner the attention of the opposition? yes
will that line draw the opposition top checking line? maybe
if they can occupy the top-defenders, it opens things up for the other lines
if it draws anything less, then they have the talent to put up the numbers
the line is mixed well to compete in today's nhl...it has speed and grit, has guys that can work the corner and keep the puck and has shown it can finish...
line 'em up, keep 'em together and give them ample opportunity to work through their problems |

Also using International hockey as a argument on the physical side of hockey where fighting is not allowed and the hitting is looked at a lot stricter then the NHL is not a good one.
I do think that being physical can help, but a team with a high powered offense is a great weapon to counter act that.
If a team scores 4-5 goals a game, then opponents will have to be playing catch up and getting away from the physical game to keep pace to win.
It's an old, lame cliche but. "Hit them where it hurts most, the score board" - ImThatGuy
the main difference between international play and the nhl, other than your stated anti-fighting rule, is the size of the rink...
much more room to maneuver...much more opportunity to display skill
the nhl is tighter and tougher especially in the playoffs...desire trumps skill almost every time |

wings teams of the 90's and early '00's had some serious attitude to go along with oodles of talent and bountiful leadership...look at shanahan....
i highly doubt their 2008 cup-winning team could have won it in that era
hate to 'trick and run, but gotta...
just some food for thought |

i think it stinks that there really is nothing that will be done about widening the ice. current NHL; skate up the ice, take your 1 chance & then hurry back to play defense. maybe the puck might take a funny bounce or you catch the goalie napping. just look at the boston bruins. horrendous hockey but a great NHL team. big bodies take up more space on a allready crowded looking ice. |

Widening the ice would mean most, if not all, the arenas in the NHL would need to remove rows of seats in the sections right next to the glass. Less seats= less people buying tickets= less money. Then we'd definitely be looking at a lock out. |

I am not ready to call Leino a bust after one season where he bounced around from wing to center on four different lines. He's not Scott Gomez yet by any means. I think he'll bounce back this season. - The_Inkwell
He is def not a center. After he had so much success on the wing with the Flyers I can't imagine why Buff would even think about having him play center. Just because he can pass and stick handle, does not mean he can play center.

I recently went to Costco and bought a case of Charmin.
When I got home, I was disappointed to learn Leino is softer.
The good news... I only spent 20 bucks, not 4 million.

That can be accomodated thru some on ice beatings. I like Ennis though.
And if he has a good year, I would ask for a king's ransom for Miller. |
