As a fan who jumped onto the Penguins wagon in the early 90's it was nice to see the Penguins acquire Coffey, he was slightly important in those two cup wins. Didn't Graves leave as a RFA or whatever the early 90's equivalent of an RFA was.
- Ben37

Mess was pissed that they weren't trying to keep important players and wouldn't negotiate him a new deal. He saw them letting Graves leave as a symptom of a greater problem.

The organizations actions in the early 90s were inexcusable.

Gags, MP and a 2nd round pick for Sekera and Grigorenko.

Gags is more of a sure thing than Grigs, and with Ott joining, be a nice start up for a decent 2nd line.

.

- shvmr

i think i'd rather take my chances with grigorenko than the tiny unreliable gagner. darcy regier was beyond happy to pick him. the sabres have their future #1 center right there. Sabres WILL make the playoffs this year, baring another injury ridden season. second round out. the sabres have good players and prospects in place, and i dont think they will give up their prospects. esp for crap like gags and MP.

Gags for sekera is the only deal that goes down between buffalo and edmonton unless one of your so called "Untouchables" is coming back to buffalo. then we can talk myers and top prospects.

They will. Trading him for another dman that we already have several of just creates a hole at 2nd line C.

Hall is not a center, he is not going anywhere anyway, either is RNH (going anywhere). Meyers is not getting moved. Gagner is a top 6 center, albeit not a star top 6. There are a few young third liners with potential.
You have already spewed this drivel in Ek's thread and gotten a similar response, why drag this rehashed comment here as well? To show how little you think of Gagner?

Edit: IF the deal were for Meyers, yes Hall would have to be included but it will not happen

- abware

I totally agree with you here. but just so you know, its "Myers" not "Meyers". to get Myers edmonton has to part with at least hall

The questions around Grigorenko caused him to fall out of the top 10. Calling him a future #1 center is premature at best.
That "crap" you refer to has already produced at the NHL level. Not sure if you're meaning to, but you're coming off like a troll.

if we are playing in some retarded hypothetical world that sees edmonton ship RNH off for spare parts, then i would like to see the pens aquire eberle for tyler kennedy, maata, kunitz, and a first.

only if you include Martin.

just found re-runs of Venture Bros., Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Harvey Birdman: Attorney At Law...all in a row! ^_^ If only The Tick were on too..the quartet would be complete.

Im am not meaning to come off as a troll at all. All im saying is to the sabres managment, grigorenko is the sabres top center prospect and their future first line center. that is as of today. could grigorenko end up being a terrible player or heading back to russia? sure he could. but he could also end up being a big star first line center. nobody knows for sure. but at this point the crap i was refering to, (mostly gagner) im calling him crap because he cant produce at the level that he was hyped up to when drafted. he is likely already reached his ceiling thus making grigorenko much more valuable and having higher promise to be a first line top center in the league. i would not trade grigorenko for gagner and mps. i'd rather take my chances and possibly fail if im sabres management than prematurely trade a guy that was considered at one point (before he had mono) as a possible 1st overall pick. grigorenko has much more trade value than gagner and mps combined.

Basically there will be no trade done. If there is, it won't be for much. Sabres could use a 3rd line center but don't need to. Could just be Sekera for a pick or a prospect just to clear cap and the log jam and frankly I'd be okay with that. I don't watch Edmonton all that much, but from what I've seen I don't see Gagne as the prototypical 3rd liner the Sabres' brass is looking for with their new "toughness" approach.

If this trade doesn't pan out, I could see Kevin Porter playing 3rd line or Girgensons if he shows he's NHL ready at training camp which could be a stretch.

First, calling Gagner crap because he can't produce to a hype level he had nothing to do with is silly. And what level was he supposed to produce at anyways? He was a 6th overall, not a 1st. He may not have put up huge numbers yet, but he's been consistent from day 1 and if you watched many Oilers games, his 2-way game has improved ten-fold since his rookie year. All that aside, he's not 30. He's 22. Saying he's already reached his ceiling is as premature as hailing Grigorenko as a #1 center before he's even played an NHL game.
As far as trade value, I wont give that much time. If you feel that a 12th overall pick with questions around him (beyond the mono which obviously had an impact) is worth more than an established NHL player and a 10th overall that's already played over 100 games then you do. I do not agree. We'll likely not see eye to eye.
Beyond all that, I actually agree. Sabres wouldn't trade Grigorenko for Gagner anymore than Edmonton would trade Gagner for Grigorenko. Not because of any talent or value comparisons, but because it doesn't really add up from either teams perspective. Buffalo has promising C prospects, they don't really need another center, especially a smaller one.

I agree. Not sure that is a major deal. The only major defenseman that buffalo has is Myers. Deal is probably gagner and hartikainen for Myers and a prospect. Richard just won't put hartikainen in any potential deal because of the man crush he has for him.
- oilcountrysask

Deal is NOT Myers for those two. Wake up. This isn't NHL 12 on XBOX, son. Those two couldn't carry Myers' jockstrap. If you guys are getting Myers (one of our "untouchables"), then we are getting one of your "untouchables". And Gagne and/or Hartikanen are definitely NOT "untouchable".

Ville Leino comes to mind. Sorry, but recently, their moves haven't panned out as expected.

And Oilers' management are members of Mensa?

Wait, I know. They planned on being the league suckholes for the last decade so they could draft top prospects, and perhaps become relevant again in another 10 years.

What a plan!!!

Oh, you'll get little argument from me. Our management hasn't been great either, but they've played it safe and are doing what they've said they'd do. Besides the Horcoff deal, how many of our contracts are really that bad? Hemsky's deal is two years long and Belanger and Eager get payed menial sums for 2 more years. Our contracts are structured to end once the 'kids' need extensions.
- MaximumBone

What's that?

Finish in the bottom 3 for the last decade? At least you're content with that.

I don't know...I liked what I saw of Pysyk with the Oil Kings. He might not start the year in the AHL, but he'll finish the season in the NHL.
- Maxbone

Pysyk has NHL ready, skating, puck moving skills and hockey sense. He needs experience and upper body strength. With Buffalo's depth, no need to rush him. He will be in the AHL this year.

it can't be ben eager

"a third line young player who many feel has top six potential" does not equal "a disappointment" on the 2nd worst team last season

- sushi

I agree. Awful assessment. Is this the same blogger who mock traded 1 or 2 buffalo centers to phoenix for more D prospects?

First of all...I think moving Hall to Center is stupid. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Second. MPS has not shown he is a top 6 guy. Hall is their ONLY real LW. Hemsky may work ok, but he's not natural there.

Third of all. How can the Oil take on another Defenceman, without getting rid of at least one maybe two that they currently have under contract.

Fourth, I'd rather keep Gags and move Hemmer. KLowe's crush on him makes me sick. They should have dealt him 4 years ago.

I dont see any of this happening at all. I see a better chance of the twitter rumour of JBO to Edmonton for a combo of Hemsky/MPS depth d guy.

- Iggysbff

Buffalo took Pardy and Kotalik in trades. They will take a Edm salary dump crap defensemen or 2.

Also he's gonna be playing third line minutes in buffalo as we have Ennis an Hodgson in front of him, there is no room for gagne on the sabres. As for grigorenko there was talk before he had mono that he could possibly go first of yakapov, nobody thought Tyler Myers could skate with his frame but I thinks he's done quite well. And Ryan miller is not going anywhere there is absoulutly no One the sabres could pick up that would be an upgrade over miller btw enroth is not ready for 60+ starts in the NHL so he can't just step in. If buff trades miller it will be for a center like getzlaf or a comparable.
