Sooooo... it's better to not make the playoffs with a young team and no cap space and a bunch of NTC? Don't fool yourself, that is what the Oil are headed for, no cap space & probably NTC for all of those RFA's unless the new CBA fixes that. - TandA4Flames

Why? What have they accomplished so far? They have talent and skill, yes, but all they've accomplished is to move from 30th overall to 29th overall. - TandA4Flames
Last time I checked a team is more than three players. |

Good players indeed, perhaps even great, but until they accomplish something at the NHL level, it's can only be considered potential.
The team must succeed for it to be realized. - Sam67

Of course you would. Backlund is not a line 1 center and I dont think will ever be. - Iggysbff
Backlund has potential be a solid 2nd line guy, maybe ends up being a 3rd liner. Hes still young and has time to develop, but I do agree...he doesnt appear to be first line material.
Wouldnt give up on him either way, hes noted that he has something to prove this year and could turn some heads. |

Well, if they have good years this year & suddenly you have the Philly's & Buffalo(who owe you one for Vanek) offering monster sheet contracts, sure you match Eberle & Hall & probably wont sign Parjarvi if he holds for decent money. Thats just wave 1 of RFA's, the 2nd wave is going to force tough decisions. Problem with rebuilding Oiler style in a Cap league. - Kevin R
So why didn't Stamkos and Doughty get offer sheets?

Explain Rick Nash - Reveen
I do not believe Nash will be the force needed for success, that the Rangers believe they are getting.
Very good player? Yes...but the guy needed to make a strong push for the cup? Not so sure... |

Explain Rick Nash - Reveen
Not sure what that means?
by that comparison do you mean in a few years of continued futility they will all want to be traded to the Rangers? or a list of teams chosen by the player(s)?

He means Nash has developed himself into a dominant player within the league, all while playing for Columbus. In that his success as an individual player has been realized on an individual level and not so much so by the team.
Although, I argue that Nash isnt as dominant of a player as many think. |

I agree..
I think he has floundered, hence his request for a trade. |

I have a suspicion that the Rangers do not excel even with the addition of Nash. To me, Nash is another pure goal scorer...but not a game changer.
The Rangers have enough guys who just score goals, they needed some more character guys who do it all.
An Iginla, if you will |

He is not your prototypical "power forward" that's for sure.
Very good player though. |

The two teams who I feel have legitimate chances at success this year, who are also the two teams I feel did not, or will not properly improve their roster are the Rangers and the Canucks.
These are two teams I feel should have strong chances for the cup, but will fall short. I may be alone in this prediction, but given their shortcomings of the past year/two, I feel neither improved upon their areas of weakness....or atleast enough to make a difference.

I am sure the offer sheets will be stacked up for Mark "the janitor" Jankowski. |

Thanks tips. Your initial statement was could we agree that those 3 have realized their potential. I am simply disagreeing. Both as individuals and as a core group, they haven't yet accomplished enough to say they are no longer considered to just be players with potential. That is in fact, exactly what they are. |

Bloody shame about Cola. He would have been a VERY good dman if he could stay healthy. Even with missing the majority of several seasons, he still developed into a guy that scores at a 40 point pace, likes to throw hits, decent defensively. Imagine if he stayed healthy through the years, what he could have become. |

Had a little fun with the allmighty 1 month for being a troll and then 1 week for EVERY post stating that he had an illegal account.
And just so you know allmighty, show up and troll with an alt (and I WILL know) and the ban starts at 1 year. |

By that reasoning...
Every player that the Flames have had since 2004 has been a BUST. Great logic... |

The New Jersey blogger just wrote up a piece on this. If we could get Butler on a 2 way, I sure wouldn't mind myself. But we really need to move out some contracts so that opportunities like this aren't so hard to fit in. |
