So he recognized the Oilers as being a good young up and coming team.
- Reveen

So why wouldnt Hall & Eberle be mentioned as potential targets for teams to offer sheet next year as well? I think the Oil have lots at stake in the new CBA when it comes to this.

For discussion sake, what do you guys think of the "proposed" trade by Detroit:

Filppula, Ericsson, pick for Bouwmeester?

- Colin Dambrauskas

I think I'd take it, even if the pick is a late rounder as speculated...

28 year old play making center with a history of winning, and a 6'4" shut down defenseman, also 28 years old...

I don't think we'll do any better than that.

Thats not a bad deal, Ericsson could plug that 3-4 spot while Brodie develops to that 3-4 position. Would love to add a Nemitz to get Detroit to throw in their 2013 1st rounder & then I would say I am really liking this deal.
- Kevin R

Although neither players are necessarily "young", the deal would make the team stronger on average. And yes, the pick would certainly make the difference, it would be nice to pry a first out of them if they could, although it may end up being too costly of a package.

It sounds like a 4th or 5th at best. I don't think we get a 1st with that package.

Not with that package, no...but as mentioned the Flames would have to add in order to pry the first from them.

However, given that their team is aging, they will likely rather keep that 1st.

If this is from a legit source, it could at least up the offers from other teams feeling the pressure to aquire a player like Jbo. I would like to make a decent enough package for DET so we could at least replace our lost 2nd rounder as well.

Would you add Backlund to go from a 4th to a 1st?

Of course you would. Backlund is not a line 1 center and I dont think will ever be.

Yep, I'm pretty sure I would. What ever center we possibly add, we would have to move another one out. Backs could end up being better than Filpula but we also have Reinhart, Horak etc, that could develop into what is expected out of Backs. I think it's worth it. Still, Colin, is Filpula that much better than what we already have? I can't say I've ever paid much attention to him.

If Filppula comes this way, we have an extra centerman.

I would think so. But again, it is all just potential right now. Although I can certainly see the attraction for Schultz.
- TandA4Flames

I would say it's safe to assume that Hall, Eberle and RNH are more than potential at this point.

I like his game. Hes another smart hockey player which it appears Feaster favors. Hes not very big, nor does he play very big...but he sees the ice well and skates well. He would not be a first line guy, but could certainly do well with Iginla.

The proposal, if accurate, is "good" for both teams, but not great. I hope the outcome of any Jbo deal brings in youth or picks. Although 28 isnt old, its not as young as Id like.

Either way, if this were what Feaster decided upon, I wouldnt be upset.

Probably because Edmonton has cap room and the money to match any offer sheet.

Why? What have they accomplished so far? They have talent and skill, yes, but all they've accomplished is to move from 30th overall to 29th overall.

Good players indeed, perhaps even great, but until they accomplish something at the NHL level, it's can only be considered potential.

The team must succeed for it to be realized.

Or at least put together a few consistent season's of individual successes and you could say the individual has realized his potential. But as a group, yea, it's still just potential. For all we know, RNH could be the next Gagner, which isn't bad, but it doesn't carry a team into the playoffs.

Well, if they have good years this year & suddenly you have the Philly's & Buffalo(who owe you one for Vanek) offering monster sheet contracts, sure you match Eberle & Hall & probably wont sign Parjarvi if he holds for decent money. Thats just wave 1 of RFA's, the 2nd wave is going to force tough decisions. Problem with rebuilding Oiler style in a Cap league.
