OK Garth, lets break er down.
Now, I don't really read HB as religiously as the kids here, but when I do read the writers here, its sometimes with a smirk, or at least more a smirk than a nodding head. In particular on some of the trite observations by some of the guys here, who then get pissy and block guys.
You seem like you're cooler than that, so whatever right. But I am going to have to chalk this one up to the Eastern Bias, I guess.
Because its a joke to have 5 East teams handicapped and not to include the "home team", the Canucks on this one. Alberta can sorta lay a claim too, but I don't think either one has made an overture.
So, maybe some knowledge to open the eyes polluted by the Big Smoke.
Lets start with family. The guy is so serious about that, he has stayed in Phx to keep the family happy. Now, with that getting to the "fed up" point, home is Kamloops for the wife. I think there is the offseason Okanagan home too. So, thats one.
Gilman, the assistant GM, has known Doan since his first year. They are good friends, and according to reports from, well, him, the Canucks were one if not the first team to call on July 1.
We won't even get into the place on the team, where he would fit like a glove. He can see that as well as anyone in hockey.
But...all those East teams? This is a guy that played his whole career in the West. I don't know the mind of a pro hockey player, because I am far from one, but I would think its more comfy in the division where you know everyone, which he does.
So, NY and the Flyers, big money teams, sure, you can sell me on two places he visited. Not so much on Pitt, because they have a ton of big $$$ to pay out soon to Letang and Malkin...but we'll see.
Montreal though? That visit is a huge middle finger to the province of Quebec. Believe me, the last place he wants to play, in my estimation, is the province where he was accused of being a racist, a liar, and brought into legal and political arenas over some politicians' whim. Price could be his twin brother! LOL
Buffalo...yeah right.
Its cool Garth, I'm happy if my team smeagols him out from under all the folks out East, and Ek has ignored Vancouver in his made up trades about Doan lately, ( in addition to getting pissy about Luongo! ), so I don't blame ya! - vancitydan
wow your a little cocky that your teams gonna get him... if you do you will still never win a cup!!! haha!! I would rather not make the playoffs then lose in the finals when your suppose to be good!! At least my team has won a cup! |

No, I think he's just putting things in a bit of a different perspective, hence the east coast bias reference, and I don't necessarily think the whole naa naa na boo boo my team has won a cup and yours hasn't rhetoric need enter the conversation. No one is disputing the fact that Toronto won their last cup nearly a half century ago when there were a whopping 6 teams in the entire league... Nothing says cocky more so than bragging about 13 cup victories, the last of which occurred probably 25+ years before you were even born... Congrats btw... and as far as hoping your team doesn't make the playoffs vs losing in the finals.... I don't think you have to keep wishing... 8 seasons and counting is it?... Yeah, you're right, screw the post season if you can't win it all!!! |

He want's to stay in the west and win. He part owns a team in B.C If not Phoenix than it's Van. His wife and him are from B.C - Boinker
Patrick Kane is from good ol South Buffalo .
Do you think we want him here or he thinks he should be here just because he lives here year round ?
I think its funny when people think your way. |

Well, I think it's become more of a popular way of thinking simply based on the fact that Parise and Suter decided to sign with a non-playoff team largely in part due to the respective locations of their off-season homes, Minnesota & Wisconsin.
For obvious reasons not every FA is going to automatically opt to be closer to their roots, but I think it's safe to assume that it's definitely a factor nonetheless for a lot of these guys. |

D-Day implies something is going to happen or change or begin. Hardly.
Also relating an overrated winger at the end of his career to a major event in military history doesn't sit well, IMO. |

Burke will trade us Connolly for a pick or prospect or even a player like Pardy.
Anyone want Timmy for a year as our 3rd line center till the G's are ready or would we rather get Moore or Arnott or even Hecht as our Plan C? - RicoMartin
Sure. Why not?
Let's bring back Satan, Grosek, Dawe and any other talented, no heart, no soul, soft-a$$ P.O.S. former Sabre we can get our hands on.
I want Tim Connolly NOWHERE NEAR THIS TEAM, AND NOWHERE NEAR OUR GOOD, YOUNG PLAYERS (Grigs, Girgs, Armia, etc) for fear he will ruin them. |

There is no doubt that landing at the $ that are being reported is a huge overpayment for any team. But the thing is that there are very few other players we could add to this team to improve without having to trade away assets. For that reason I do want Doan even at 7.5 M.
I do agree that we are long shots. We were not a playoff team and have few star players. Doan would probably want to chose a team that he feels can really win now, and I just don't think the Sabres are in the same category as Pitt, Phi, etc.
Maybe Pegula can work his charm, maybe he will be impressed by the facilities and the SUBURBS. And Doan has not closed the door on us like he has on some other teams that he felt weren't close to contending. So there is a chance. - Sabretooter

Doan will never go to Vancouver, because you guys will never win a Cup with Thelma and Louise there on your top line.
I feel bad for Kesler. He deserves better.

REHEHEHEALLY.... Do you remember your last cup? How was that final game? Did you party much afterwards?
And I don't think that your team owner agrees with you about rather not being in the playoffs than losing in the playoffs.

Just reiterating what someone already said, but you'd think he'd lower his asking price considerably if he truly wanted to sign with a contender. If he just wants the big payday, then he should lower his expectations a bit and expand his list of teams.
I'll be shocked if he gets even close to 7.5 from any team as it is.... I could see maybe, and that's a big MAYBE a one year deal for like $6, but not 4 years. Maybe even like a 4 year front loaded deal for like $20 million. I guess we'll see though... - MnGump
By stalling this long, it's pretty clear he does not want to leave Phoenix if he can help it at all. If he does have to leave Phoenix, he might as well go for the payday to make it worth leaving a city that, from all reports, he has set significant roots in. |

I remember we lost in the finals. I was so mad that me and the rest of the tards started trashing our city....wait... - Dwight K. Schrute
I would rather get within one game of the cup (twice) and watch a bunch of retards trash my city (twice) and then go clean up the mess with the other 13999 diehard fans the next day, then watching my team underachive year after year, and not even reaching final in 45 years. |

And then include Ennis in a deal for Bobby Ryan. If Briere or any other center were to come here, Lindy Ruff would move Ennis to a wing. Ennis plays better at center than at wing, so you might as well ship him out. |

(According to Capgeek,) We have 11 forwards signed at $2.7 mil average hit. The Flyers have 13 signed at $2.4 mil average. Take Briere out and they are at $2.1 mil average per forward, and I bet they still end up top 10 in goal scoring. Crazy. |
