Although the Buffalo Sabres keep dreaming of acquiring coveted free agent Shane Doan, there are no guarantees that landing him will make the team a team Stanley Cup contender next season.
After missing the playoffs for the third time in the last five years, the Sabres' highest selling point relies on their new passionate owner Terry Pegula, who would love to add an offensive powerhouse to his lineup.
While Doan is could re-sign with the Phoenix Coyotes or move to an established contender like the Pittsburgh Penguins, Philadelphia Flyers or New York Rangers, the Buffalo News reveals that the Sabres could focus all of their attention on Anaheim Ducks sniper Bobby Ryan, who has been on the trade block for several weeks.
However, the News claims the Sabres are not willing to move left wing Tyler Ennis or many of their other young forwards, but could instead offer up some of their several defensemen, such as Andrej Sekera and Jordan Leopold or prospect Mark Pysyk.
According to the News, the Ducks would still demand one or two forwards in return for Ryan, who tallied 31 goals and 26 assists for 57 points in 82 games last season.
in this day and age how does one go about keeping this a secret.. i am highly skeptical.. why didnt he enter the draft last year if he is older? - SabresFaninIndiana
Unfortunately or fortunately it could be true that his age is falsified.
I personally know folks who came from Eastern Europe and purposely falsified their records on their papers so that they could retire and collect pensions in Canada sooner than 65.
However, even if he was 20, he was still one of the best at the WJ tournament, so that should be enough for all to live with the dream that this guy has serious potential.

The Sabres can put a very good deal on the table for Ryan if Darcy had the balls to do it, he wants Doan because no players go out with getting him. Doan is not worth anything close to 7 mill a yr. and a contract like that would kill us.
if the sabres like their 3 young centers, the first rounders and catenacci then I think they can go as high as Ennis, Gerbe, Brennan and a first
put sekera in for brennan and change the pick to a 3rd or even go ennis and staff and get a pick back
the key is those three kids, if 2 are ready they can pull the trigger but they are handcuffed if the ducks want ennis and the kids are not ready
the more I read, it seems flynn will be at rw instead of center - homiedclown
I don't see how both kids are with the big club day 1. If Grigorenko can play top-6 minutes I'd include Ennis to get Ryan. It's way easier to find a bottom-6 center to plug in. Otherwise you have to make Anaheim come down. They may if they realize no teams will meet their demands. Or they might keep Ryan.

after hearing the thought of playing ott with coho and vanek and the right, yeah that may only be for the first period of the first game with ruff, I think they are leaning toward rolling 3 lines this year
