I think the Flyers agree with you or Ryan would be here already. I still think Homer tries to work out a deal for him before the summer is out.
- stveshdy

Hey if Homer can improve the team without sacrificing too much, I'm glad. I'm all for acquiring a talented winger or defenseman at the right price. I just don't want to see Homer over pay because he's determined to get something at this point. I don't think he will or he would have already. If we went into the season like this, I'd be happy. Still plenty of time for Holmgren to turn out world upside down again.

Its all about finding the correct players to compliment each other.

Schenn-Gervais would be a mistake.

Last year we had Bourdon playing with Matt Carle.. doesnt mean Bourdon is a #2. Schenn would benefit from playing with a guy like Timonen.

right. we need a puck mover to play with this mix

wow.....ok. a guy who hasn't scored less than 30 goals every season in NHL vs. a rookie who scored 20 something.....with the potential to due that every year......come on.
- flyersfan51

Why wow? Look at the Flyers drafting history in the first round over the past decade.

02- Joni Pitkanen
03- Carter, Richards
04- none
05- Downie
06- Giroux
07- JvR
08- Sbisa
09- none
10- none
11- Couturier
12- Laughton

Would you trade any of those two PLUS Read for Ryan?

There is a distinct difference with being happy with what you have, but still wanting to improve, and not being happy and needing to improve.

I think any logical fan would agree that improving your team is a good thing. Continuing with logical thought, just because you are trying to get a star player doesnt mean you are unhappy with your current group.

being happy with your team and throwing over 300 mil out there is 2 way different things

Its all for naught.

But I was one of the minority that would have been willing to deal Schenn and Cooties together if absolutely need be for Weber. If Nashville was truly able to match but at least willing to listen to a trade I would have made the move. Hindsight is a curse obviously.

Although I think we see even more now that how hard it is to find elite d-men. Harder to find than players like Schenn or Cooties, while I do like them.

I would have been willing to include one or the other with picks or alone, but not both.

Actually most contenders do minors weeks as they have their team already

Is that why the rangers got Nash? And why Pittsburgh was in on Parise?

If a certain confident guy can play like he did against Pitt in the playoffs, then we already have him.

That would be relevant if it was straight up Ryan for Read.

Well, they offered Read, Meszaros and picks for Weber, so I'm guessing it would be Read and a pick for Ryan, despite the admiration
- Jsaquella

The Flyers could stand pat and go with the current team into the season but for some reason I think they are going to make a move.

Well that is what I thought so i was wondering why did they not front load it a bit more or a lot more as a fan I would be a little frustrated especially since alot of the flyers fans where pretty pumped with good reason about it I mean had they made it 30 mil in the first year or whatever you feel would get it done why not do that or is that as far as they could take it without getting into some sort of trouble with the league or is that more then the flyers wanted to pay for one year now im rambling lol

Tell that to teams like buffalo toronto who dont have a franchise center....all three of those guys are franchise centers...homer knows what he has.

They may well make a move. I'm only basing my views off what I would do and what they have done so far this summer.

So far they have avoided trading young players, even for elite players. I doubt that changes now, just because they have a hard on for Ryan.

so which of Franson and Komi are ahead of Schenn? I mean I notice schenn has way more games played then both
- Bieksa#3

Franson, took a while to catch on with Wilson...He's was a whinny biotch in preseason..He was benched for a dozen or so games at the begining of the season. By mid season he was playing more than Schenn

Komi is a simular style d-man as Schenn, but is worse. Komi aslo wears an "A" and aparently is good in the dressing room. Plus making 4.5M, I'm guessing BUrke wanted him to be playing not riding the pine.....

Don't get me wrong, I think Schenn will become way better than both of them, but he has confidence issues and is tentative way to often.

1st rd picks are very valuable. Also Ryan costs $164500 per goal. Read only costs $45000 per goal. So for 2 1st rd picks and $4.2 million can you add to read to make your team better than it would be with Ryan and no Read. I think so.

Too much, or fantastic??
I would say, too much, but this is his actual market value

- Ondrej F

$4M is the new $2.5M-$2.75M from a few years ago.

Good signing.

I love how everyone says throwing 300 mil out there.

They offered two contract to two guys who were UFA's.. they signed somewhere else.

They offered one contract to a RFA.. it was matched.

It isnt like they were hoping to land all three at the same time.. and even if they were, is it hard to believe it was still an attempt to improve? I understand Gillie being OK with the status quo, but Homer isnt. He is constantly looking to make this team the best. Happy or not.

Agreed. I suggested that they look to add some more depth offensively through the UFA. Huselius is a player that I like and could be a productive player. Injuries have had a huge impact on his game the past two seasons (high ankle sprain and groin injury) but it doesnt hurt to find out.

Depends if Anaheim lowers their asking price. I don't know whats going to happen but I still think they make a move even if its for someone other than Bobby Ryan.

I completely agree with you.

While elite defenders are tough to find, you can still put a very solid top 4 on the ice without a true, elite number one.

Finding that top line, elite center however, is another story.
You almost need to win the lottery and get a top 2-3 pick, or win the lottery by having a lesser draft pick's production explode to find that top line center.

Cool. Thanks for that.

I'm a little ignorant - where is Winnipeg? East or West Coast?
