How does a deal for Ryan work given the Voracek contract? I think Ryan's cap hit is $5.1M. I assume Voracek is not a piece going back, but don't know? Is there any speculation on this? - spatso
Flyers can go over the cap by 10%.

The Flyers shouldnt turn around and deal Voracek now that would look bad imo. - stveshdy
Jak won't be moving IMO.
It's a Read+ package or no deal for Ryan. |

I agree. I think Read is the guy to go in a deal. Teams will value his cap hit. |

Why? He was a RFA... it's not like he was an UFA and they just traded him off after signing him.
I don't think they will do that, but I also don't think it would be a big deal. |

Sends a bad message imo. Now if they trade him two-three years down the road I can understand but right now it looks bad. |

Unless, he understood what was happening prior to signing the deal. I think Bobby Ryan is a great asset. But, I would not easily give up Voracek. The Ducks want a second line center. Not sure how Holmgren can do this?

Only message I would get out of it is we moved Voracek to get a better player in Bobby Ryan. If improving your team "sends a bad message" then I dunno what to think anymore |

Our best hope is that Ryan is pushing for a deal behind closed doors. |

Unless you are getting a better player in Bobby Ryan. Improving is certainly a reason to trade anyone. |

Does it make the team better? Why sign here if all the Flyers are going to do is move you? I would ask to be traded before I signed. If he ended up on a team that needed to reach the cap floor he could even get more money. |

It absolutely sends a bad message... to the players. Players, like it or not, will second guess signing team friendly deals if it continues to happen. Why sign a deal to just be dealt right away after. Instead they could hold out till UFA status and then sign where they please for what they want. |

You would weaken your team by trading for Bobby Ryan. Voracek + would be a bad move for this club. |

If a certain confident guy can play like he did against Pitt in the playoffs, then we already have him.

Couldnt disagree more. He could have signed a one year deal or gone to arbitration. He knows he is playing on a line with G. Numbers are gonna jump, and so would his income. Instead he signed a deal now.. gets good money now, and likely believe he will be a Flyer for 4 years. Thats what he wants. |

Everything you just said is based on his future performance. His contract is based on what they expect him to do in the future. Just as JvR's was.
It is called being proactive, Eagles do it all the time and then players feel they have outperformed their deals. |

sure it does... believe it or not, I dont think Ryan over Voracek makes us that much better. Voracek is a much better two way forward.. he also is a much better possession based forward. Ryan is much more exciting and is a far better goal scorer. |

And the contract (offer sheet) offered to Weber was based on the same thing. Paying him based on future performance. |

no its based on past performance. Look at his deal and compare it to the guys who just got paid.. he is 22 years old and has more points than both Perron and Oshie. He got 250k more than them per year.

If we had gone and got Doan we wouldnt be able to afford Voracek. Either way you are short money for a new forward.
I personally dont think we need another scorer. We have 8 guys who have the potential to score 20 goals. Thats almost unheard of. - jak521
