If Nashville realizes this Weber contract is an albatross, they will probably trade him in short time, Flyers assured themselves with this offer sheet, they won't even be in the mix with a trade if Weber becomes available. - PLindbergh31
Trading Weber would defeat the purpose of why they signed him (matched). Getting their franchise player was to show the fan-base that they are committed. Trading him puts them back at square one again, IMO. |

I would rather the Flyers look to add another defenseman first then a winger. While we have 8/9 of them we could use another legit one. - stveshdy
Anyone in mind? |

They just lost Suter a few weeks ago. Losing Weber on top of that would have been a PR nightmare, if they trade him for a solid package in 2 years, the scrutiny they would face wouldn't be anywhere close to what it would have been. |

Well, I assume now the Preds owners will be trying desperately to NOT have the season be cancelled. |

would it be fair to say that Read, Voracek, GUS and a 1st for Ryan, a 3rd and an AHL Dman would be superior/Equal/Worse to what the Rangers traded for NAsh? |

Oh hh well they should have thought of that... If it is cancelled they take a 26 mill loss and if weber is itching for tradevit will have set them back |

Anaheim has said they want a center, which is why Schenn & Couturier are mentioned in any possible deal. |

The labor uncertainty was the main reason why I thought they wouldn't match. Pretty shocked they did. |

Speaking of, I just got back from my visit to my "second office".
Before I leave - Daman[again] for the day, I will go on record that Nashville has the power here, they will match unless the Flyers make a good offer, and it won't be suprising to me if they lock up Weber.
I would assume that Ryan would be the next target.
The week of crappy bans - I like that.
Cheers!

You think they would consider Read? He can play Wing or Center. |

I don't know, if the Flyers put the best offer on the table, it'd be fairly dumb on Nashville's part to not take it regardless of this offer sheet thing. IMO it wouldn't be an issue, but maybe I'm being too naive. Again, in some sense, Holmgren actually helped Poile out here. Preds got their guy long term. There's no way for Weber to leave without Nashville getting a monster return, whenever that could be. |

It came down to a little guy refusing to be bullied by a big guy when you break it down in laymans terms. The only losers in this are the Flyers imo.
In the grand scheme of things, why would anyone here care if this Weber contract cripples the Nashville franchise? Doesn't benefit any of us in the least. - PLindbergh31
It kept Weber off the Rags, Pens, or any other rival teams. That's a bit of a win at least, and it didn't cost us a thing. As much as you're ripping Holmgren about the current situation, you'd probably stroke out if Weber had signed with another team in the east. |

I think just like the offer indirectly says that Prongs is done, the signing says that the chances of a lockout are pretty small. As owners, they cannot say that, of course, but I don;t see it happening for the 2nd time in a decade, and with a Wings-Leafs WC tv revenue on hand. It could be a truncated season though. |

Actually Weber helped the Preds b/c he didn't have to sign the offer sheet from the Flyers. |

So many proposals flying around. Which proposal would youtrade for Enstrom? The Jets just offerred Kane a good size contract so they may be ripe. |

Just getting to post now.. Very disappointed we didn't get Weber, but can't say I am sad we didn't give up Schenn Cooter etc.. Great attempt by Homer, but shoulda put more money on the front end..
Good luck in Nash Weber.. It's gonna be Rinne Weber and AHL'ers in Nash if the season doesn't start on time and the owners lose a ton of money. |
