The Kings routinely lost around the same amount of money that Nashville has reportedly lost. They were in the black after winning the Cup this summer - Jsaquella
Counting on winning a cup to stay solvent is a bad plan. I really do hope they are ok financially and wish them the best |

Am I the only one that thinks the Flyer D will be much improved this year? They were all hurt in the final playoff series. I also believe an over looked speedster Wellwood is going to contribute a lot. - jstross
I have two concerns. Puck moving and the impact of injuries. If they have two or three guy go down, they'll need to make a deal sooner than they did last season. |

Is he still good....how the hell old is he? Really if the Flyers wanted to commit to some team Defense. Doan is an excellent addittion. But I wouldn't do it, we're too close to shedding Kimmo, Shelley, and the great 8's contracts. - Just5
Just had his 8th straight 30 goal season on a poop team. Im thinking deadline deal, and hes a free agent next year so youre not tied to him and can pursue Corry Perry or Getzlaf |

The Flyers keep their picks, have cap room and still have all their key young talent. Not sure how that is a loss. - Jsaquella
It's not a total washout, but the team believed Weber was the missing piece. Hard to argue with it. As I mentioned in a previous post teams that win Cups 90% of the time have that top stud on the blueline, Flyers don't have one of those guys. Weber would in all liklehood been the best d-man in franchise history. |

Well, they brought the issue on themselves. Should have been more proactive in getting Suter & Weber done when they did Rinne |

undeniably true. at this point, I would explore bogo, but regardless the cost would be high. - isaiah520
if he ever became available, i'd love to see the flyers get a hold of seabrook. i still covet him. i'm sure it's a pipe dream though |

Have to wait on the health of Meszaros and Timonen. At this point it's fair to question if they will be healthy to start the season. |

It came down to a little guy refusing to be bullied by a big guy when you break it down in laymans terms. The only losers in this are the Flyers imo.
In the grand scheme of things, why would anyone here care if this Weber contract cripples the Nashville franchise? Doesn't benefit any of us in the least. - PLindbergh31
Flyers lost their chance to get Weber but so did every other team in the NHL (minus Preds). The Flyers will have to march forward and try to upgrade on what they currently have. Weber while dynamic and probably the best defenseman in the league is off the market the Flyers can still become a cup contending team if they keep adding the necessary pieces. |

Weber would have been a great addition, and yes the team would have been immediately better.
That said, the Flyers are no worse off than they were a week ago. It's a disappointment, but this was a risk going in. |

They were their own worst enemy ... I will laugh if weber gets his Ntc and they try to trade him but he is only willing to goto the flyers... Hypothetical but then what |

It's possible. I saw a discussion of why he demanded the NTC....simply put, if Nashville can't be a competitive team, he wants to control where he can go. He wants his Rick Nash card |

Yeah. The timing of this Nash trade has annoyed me. I think Sather had some scuttlebutt, and got Nash on the cheap because he knew if the Flyers struck out on Weber they would have turned their attention there. |

I hope he is a loyal guy and saw what the flyers did for him...that would be the ultimate last laugh ...pay him 26 million then loose him to the flyers |

I would rather the Flyers look to add another defenseman first then a winger. While we have 8/9 of them we could use another legit one. |

I don't see them lacking depth on D. Mcdonagh, Staal, Girardi, and DZ is a hell of a top two pairings.
When Gaborik gets back, their second line will feature Callahan, Krieder, and Stepan.
With Hagelin on the third line. If they add Doan to that, it's a hell of a mix. - PLindbergh31
3rd pairing is wanting |

If Nashville realizes this Weber contract is an albatross, they will probably trade him in short time, Flyers assured themselves with this offer sheet, they won't even be in the mix with a trade if Weber becomes available.

Holmgren simply expected that there was no way Nashville would be willing to match the massive cash in the first few years. - Jsaquella
Nashville matching was always a possibility. The reasons they gave are hardly rocket science. They were given two very bad choices and chose the lesser of the two bads.
I can;t believe that Homer would be so stupid, so I am not going to believe it. I think it is more likely that he told Poile that both Couts and Schenn were not going to happen, and if Poile had other Gratton type deals in mins, he should call, and that call never came.
Though I don't understand is the offer before the OS. Why start so low? |

I'm sure his final contract will have a Ntc... Hopefully the only team on that will be the flyers |

Would be nice to have a dynamic guy to play with Giroux. I don't see any great candidates right now, I think it will end up being Schenn in the not so distant future. |

pretty much - unless his agent can get him a modified NMC limited to one team.
