I wasn't shocked that they matched. I never saw it as more than 60-40 that Weber was coming here. - Jsaquella
I mean that they didn't even call and try to offer a trade. They just flat out matched and didn't even pick up the phone. They must have money hidden in a vault. |

Holmgren never even gave them the chance to bluff. He thought the sheet was so dastardly that they'd never consider matching and waited for Poile to call him and beg for terms. - Jsaquella
I didn't think we could get weber without a trade. would love to know what a final offer looked like. |

I'm a bit surprised by that, but consider how pissed Poile was when Suter left, and add to that the fans being pissed off if they lost both guys. I think the entire wait on Nashville's part was simply crunching the numbers and making sure that they could do it.
It took a lot of balls for Poile to match. |

at the #s I'm hearing, I'd pass anyway...esp for a 35+ contract - isaiah520
Well hopefully he stays in Phoenix. I fear he will sign with the Rangers. They have a stacked team as is, and a boatload of cap space.

I'd bet that the final offer was Read, Meszaros and Gus or MAB, plus Nashville keeping two of the picks-whatever he offered prior to dropping the offer sheet |

Balls yes brains no... Considering what and who they have to sign next offseason, all that's gong to be left is a pissed of weber and a disinterested rinne |

The problem is the only names I've heard are Yandle, Boyle, JayBo, Visnovsky (if appeal goes through) and possible Enstrom. - stveshdy
LV is only for one yr, so maybe he could be a stop gap, I dunno |

The way that offer sheet was designed I really didn't think they would match. Its just too much bonus money in the first six years for a small market team. They have so much money tied up in Weber and Rinne I have no idea how they are going to build around that.
You think the Preds are going to raise ticket prices? |

Jarome Iginla will make his cup run with us come deadline time... - aosplayo
Is he still good....how the hell old is he? Really if the Flyers wanted to commit to some team Defense. Doan is an excellent addittion. But I wouldn't do it, we're too close to shedding Kimmo, Shelley, and the great 8's contracts. |

They have a task in front of them, for sure. But if they go on a good playoff run this year, who knows what the revenues will be next summer. The new CBA may greatly help them.
Sucks for the Flyers, but there's other options out there. |

It wouldn't be amazing.
Holmgren definitely stretched their ability to match. No question. |

Not that Nashville will want to deal with Homer again but if they did would be interesting they'd want to move one of Jonathon Blum or Roman Josi - ob18
Can we OS them next season? At some point Nashville has to run out of $$$ |

I just don't see them getting the kind of windfall even if they win the cup... 1 million hh in Nashvile area...is each household going to spend 70+ dollars on the press? |

Holmgren simply expected that there was no way Nashville would be willing to match the massive cash in the first few years. |

It came down to a little guy refusing to be bullied by a big guy when you break it down in laymans terms. The only losers in this are the Flyers imo.
In the grand scheme of things, why would anyone here care if this Weber contract cripples the Nashville franchise? Doesn't benefit any of us in the least. |

The Kings routinely lost around the same amount of money that Nashville has reportedly lost. They were in the black after winning the Cup this summer |

The Flyers keep their picks, have cap room and still have all their key young talent. Not sure how that is a loss. |

I don't see them lacking depth on D. Mcdonagh, Staal, Girardi, and DZ is a hell of a top two pairings.
When Gaborik gets back, their second line will feature Callahan, Krieder, and Stepan.
With Hagelin on the third line. If they add Doan to that, it's a hell of a mix. |

Am I the only one that thinks the Flyer D will be much improved this year? They were all hurt in the final playoff series. I also believe an over looked speedster Wellwood is going to contribute a lot. |
