I think everyone would have asked "Why" and say Nashville would never have matched it.

Do you remember what happened when we added Prongers, by then over 35? He was by far the Flyers MVP of the playoffs and took us deep into the SCF, and if Quenneville does not split up the Kane-Toewes line and Byfuglien does not absolutely destroy Pronger with a hit (after which he was largely ineffective in the last 2 games), I think we would have won.

There is no cap in the new CBA, GMs have to fight to the death for a player.

In a related story, Brian Burke fired, Tie Domi hired as new Leafs GM.

Indeed. Net result is he probably ruined a long relationship with Poile, while deflating the entire fan base in one fell swoop.

While I agree, Richards has had two 90 point seasons in his career. I don't know man. This week was the Flyers week. All the hope and after a while expectations that they would get Weber. Then the Rangers spoil it by getting Nash and the Flyers get kicked in the crotch and don't get Weber......

In fact PLind was right. He said it would be in the most painful way possible and it was. Nearly 24 hours after the Rangers got Nash, the Preds matched the contract. That's pretty poopty if you ask me.

I took it much better until I've been seeing what some people in the hockey world have been saying. I know his agents are smoothing everything over with Nashville and their media currently, but from many accounts Weber is "surprised" (pissed) and the Preds aren't thrilled themselves. What the hell. I'm sorry this makes no sense to me. If you don't think this is a good move for your franchise, why would you make it? Are they that dumb?
- Flyers1218

my conspiracy theory is..this

1. They Match.....Knowing weber is going to complain and be a female dog.
2. They dont Pay the 13 million. Match negated.
3. They go back to the fan base and say we tried we matched but he didnt want to stay.
4. Look like victim.

Not enough to hang our hat on. Rangers have far better top end talent

I like the Flyers as underdogs though this year. Lets roll with the kids and let them grow up with these types of challenges

I'm not looking at this from the Nashville prospective, Flyers were close to landing a defenseman who in all likelihood would have become the best in franchise history and came away empty. Anyone who isn't extremely disappointed by this isn't being truthful.

Unfortunately, most of the professional commentators are spewing wind. And not from their mouths.

The Weber miss is truly devastating. Really, I think this move wrecked things for the Flyers, Preds, and Weber himself.

As I have been saying, Bobby Ryan.

And when it happens, which it will, please don't be surprised this time. I'm trying to help, damnit.

I thought you'd be happy they didn't trade any players for Weber. It was never a realistic outcome that they wouldn't match and get draft picks. It'd have taken a big package to do it. You should be happy the team wasn't "gutted" as you put it the other day.

Nothing wrong with disappointment but you had to factor in the chances that Nashville was willing to match the offer. It's their franchise player (after they already lost Suter) and basically the only way to show the fans they were committed to building a championship team.

He was a RFA and the Flyers did everything they could to try and get him. We dont even know if Nashville even offered to make another deal but rather just decide its offer sheet or nothing. They stuck to their word and matched.
