We have a young talented team. Weber wouldn't have made us cup favorites. NY is. He would have made us better. No doubt. Team defense will win us a cup. Not one player. I like this team a lot. Besides. Homer said he likes this team, not loves it. He will add.
I was just talking about this with my brother. I think the Rangers are twice the team the Flyers are as currently constructed ON PAPER. Doesn't necessarily mean anything. The Rangers D is scary, especially if they get Sauer back:
Coburn Grossman MDZ Staal
- Flyers1218
I am not sure this is better, if Grossmann is the pre-injury Grossmann and Coburn is the playoffs Coburn.
Simmonds Briere Schenn Kreider Stepan Callahan
- Flyers1218
And I am not sure that line is better either
The key is that the Rsngers play as a team, while we are a feast or famine team and generally have a tough time against solid defensive teams. In particular, though Briere gets his points on breakaways and powerplays, his line is largely ineffectual against tight checking, physical teams.
Provided your business is improving and has solid fundamentals, it is not difficult to match imbalances between revenue and expenses. There are things called banks, which offer loans, for instance. - PT21
For which, the banks like to collect interest. They really like it when the EBITDA is much greater than the I.
Just bustin' your balls.
What this says is that the billionaire guy is going to put in a bunch of cash and get a greater percentage of the ownership. He must have significant liquidity and believe that his equity value in his primary business will be strong over the long haul (unlike Research in Motion, which, five years ago you would have thought would be around forever rather than seemingly beginning its end phase - can anyone say Treo?). The Predators will be his toy. Unless they win a Cup or two SOON, even under relatively favorable conditions, it is unlikely the team will be cash flow positive for at least 5 or 6 years. That is a long time to be eating cash. Clearly, while a significant financial decision, I doubt it was one made with the concept of MAKING money.
plays an NHL game or plays for my team w/ exp? lilja clearly was inadequate as a full time #6 dman if that's what you're referring to. guess we can dig up the corpses of vandermeer, randy jones and proposed Jeff carter trades.
and I wouldn't want to go out on a limb if I was afraid that I couldn't handle it. I don't mind staking out a position and I'll own up to being wrong. - isaiah520
Lilja clearly wasn't signed to be a full time #6 D man. And he wasn't a full time #6 D man. He played 46 games for the Flyers last year. Which is a little over half a Season. And he played adequately. As you would expect. And he clearly didn't suck.
But none of that really matters. But here is my main point. Which hasn't really changed since the original discussion about Lilja last year at this time.
Why not let them play before we decide a player sucks, or the defense isn't any good.

I'm tending to think the things the Flyers have been running from all these years, like being patient and trusting young players to develop, might be forced upon them this year, thus being their true deliverance.

we'll never agree about lilja and I feel that the d isn't good enuf...not that it sucks. we need a puck mover.

I would beg to differ there. Adding Weber would certainly elevate the Flyers to Cup favorites. Maybe not the favorite. But certainly one of them. Weber is that good.

There doesn't need to be an agreement. There is only how it is. And that's that Lilja was exactly what he was brought in to be. A veteran depth defenseman, who can play and won't kill you out there. If you were expecting more, then it is the expectations that are the issue.
They lost Carle, so there are some puck movement elements that are missing. But there is also an opportunity for other players such as Meszaros. You never know how a mix of players is going to turn out.
