Yea, Nashville definately won this. All kinds of players will want to go here now that the Flyers have negotiated the contract for their franchise player, which took multiple days for Nashville to figure out if they could match or not. These guys look to be in complete control.

Just what the Preds need. A disgruntled star player/captain making $26mm next year.
- flyguy12

He isn't going to be disgruntled. He knew this was a possibility. Or he wouldn't have signed the OS. He got what he wanted most of all. A long term front loaded contract. Before the the new CBA changes the rules.

Poile played hard ball. Never even picked the phone up to discuss a trade by all reports, he let Holmgren twist in the wind for 5 days, and in the meantime the Rags acquired Nash for a pile of poop.

Kicked in the teeth yet again, what else is new.

Thank God football training camp starts in a few days.

they probably knew they were matching last thursday......but I don't blame Poile for letting Homer squirm......we miss out on Nash (which I'm fine with) but the only position we need to get stronger at is D and I don't see any out there that we can acquire.....any suggestions?

Owing $33M to 2 players over next 11 mos with 12 FAs next summer basically undoes the recent improvements in Preds' financials.

I have to give Nashville credit they stuck to their word and whipped out their stones on Homer.

Fine for the Rags. I never had any interest in Nash anyway.

I'm guessing, though, that his acquisition will cause Holmer to kick the Ryan tires a bit harder now.

I'm not interested in Doan for the years and the money.

I don't know what tires he's going to kick. But I guarantee he's not finished trying to get some new wheels.

I agree. They took a shot but Homer stayed realistic to what he was willing to trade.
- stveshdy

Perhaps a bit too realistic. If the actual offer was Read, Mesz, 1st, 2nd, then thats not having balls of steel. Thats pretty stupid. How many of us are wishing now that we had offered Schenns + Meszy + 2 firsts?

Sanity prevailed. The financial arguments against matching never made any sense whatsoever. I predicted that Nashville will match after building up anticipation so that their fanbase is actually grateful that they ended up with 1 blue-chip Dman less than they had last year. They put the screws on Homer to see if the trade offers sweeten.

When they did not, they matched.

Lets move on. We are not a top 4 team in the East this year. Lets see what we have in the young uns, and go for 2013-14 as the target year after shedding Kimmo contract.

I wasn't thrilled about Nash either, but he only has 6 yrs left on his deal, will mostly be prime years, and for the price that Columbus ended up getting I would take Nash on a wing with Giroux.

This sucked a fatty. For those that didn't think Nashville had the power here, you were dead wrong. We'll never know if the Flyers could have offered more in a trade, but it doesn't matter.

In truth, this is a blessing in disguise. If we signed Weber, I would have to use up a vacation day for the parade. Now, I don't have to worry.

Think the Rangers are better than us? You better get used to a nice NYR FU sandwich.

We are still better than the Pens and the rest of the crap in the Eastern Conference. But this hurts. Really hurts.

The "I wouldn't trade Voracek and Mez" comments - careful what you wish for.

Provided your business is improving and has solid fundamentals, it is not difficult to match imbalances between revenue and expenses. There are things called banks, which offer loans, for instance.

i love how you reserve the right to rip them no matter what

if it was any other team going after Parise/Suter and then Weber you'd applaud their efforts to improve their team by any means necessary

but because its the Flyers, they are stupid and do nothing but get "skull penetrated". While if they didnt go hard after those players, I can guarantee you'd rip them for not being aggressive.

Why is everyone in an up roar? He wasn't coming here. If this OS never went down people would be fine with this team. Give it a break. Nashville had great d and great goal tending. And how far did they get? We have players who play as a team. Our division is the toughest. I would rather have balance all around rather be strong in one area. And we are balanced.

A lot depends on the health of Mez and Kimmo.
If those guys can play for most of the season their D will be fine.
If they get hurt it might force their hand to try and trade for another puck mover type defenseman.

Get Voracek signed, and lets see what Schenn and Couts can do with more ice time.

Voracek 3yrs @ 3.75/yr, or something like that.

- PLindbergh31

Or on to the next one that will succeed. You act as if every move Holmgren makes fails. But why be positive when you can be negative. Even before this move Holmgren has built a solid young team with oodles of potential. And I love this team as it is, and am incredibly excited to see young player grow and succeed such as B Schenn, Voracek, Couturier. And the continued play of a superstar in Claude Giroux who is what 24?

So while I understand the disappointment in not getting Weber. Which I share. I see no reason for doom and gloom.
