My interpretation is Nashville is leaking that it will match unless #Flyers meet trade demands hoping to make Holmgren squirm and give in.

No. His job is to try and get the best player available and keep your direct compitetion from getting him... Mission accomplished. Sticking to the Preds is just gravy. - RooNosHockey
Mission accomplished? Did I miss the announcement that the Flyers got Weber? |

and here comes the bluff:
John Shannon @JSportsnet
Just got told by 1 NHL Exec it looks like Preds will match Weber offer sheet. "Unless,Flyers are prepared to make a great trade"#doubtful - Philly1980
But that's not coming from Nashville ; it's someone from another organization trying to put simultaneous heat on PHL ("you'd better trade at all costs or they'll match") and on NSH ("Everyone is expecting you to match despite any hardships it will create - you CAN match, can't you?) .
It's no more or less reliable than the execs who told Dreger they think there's no way Preds can or will match.
With the way hockey biz works, the one who talked to Shannon could very well actually feel Preds won't match and the Dreger ones could feel the opposite.
Take all of it with lots of grains of salt, in other words. |

.Why won't Nash perform up to his Cap now, or in the next 5-6 years? Nash is 28 and is in his prime. Don't see that changing in the next 5-6 years. And if Ryan continues to elevate, your looking at possibly a higher Cap hit in the future. - MJL
i don't know the exact valuations off the top of my head, but he'd have to score close to 50 goals to be worth 7.8. i also don't think 28-33 is a scorer's prime. in fact, i think that's beyond the vast majority of scorer's primes. obviously there are outliers and perhaps nash will be one, but even though he didn't play on a great team ever, his numbers, to me, don't suggest that he'll be scoring 40 goals for the next six years. or maybe at all. |

and who will ever forget the way the spectrum shook for game 6, I thought the roof was going to cave in again - vejim
Sadly, it's too distant of a memory. Got me thinking about Sather... he always reminded me of Moe Howard. When he was a player he got caught with the palm cut of his glove cut out so that he could grab the stick directly. |

Laughton, Bourdon and a first - vejim
I think they'd be looking for a Center that can play right away. So with the Flyers involved. They would likely be asking for Schenn or Couturier.

Isn't it great how many "insiderrrrrrs" and people with "friends high up in the flyers front office" there are whenever these trade/offer sheet scenarios pop up? |

those deep pockets better be deep!
The leader of the local ownership group said members have been forced to put $60 million of their own money into the operation over the past five years, largely to cover losses. The city has given the Predators $38.6 million in the same period.
And the city of Nashville has indicated it is willing to continue its public funding. Since 1997, Metro and the state have given the hockey team $107.8 million through a contract that has been renegotiated once with more generous incentives.

Might not get Weber, but NYR and Pitt are not getting him either. Didn't cost the Flyers anything but time to block a trade to an EC team, at worst. At best we get Weber... So EITHER way, mission accomplished. |

I would really like to know what the demands are. Is it one of Cooter schenn or both. If both no.. if one... talk even though I like B schenn. - Hextall271
I think Holmgren and Poile both get A+ for the way they have played this so far. I notice some of the posters here are changing their position by the hour.
Relax, negotions will get serious tomorrow.
There will be a deal and both sides will be happy. |

so you're gonna break the Schenn brothers up before they even play a game? they are both gonna be so much better playing on the same team. |

Not that I disagree but I don't see Homer giving up more than what he offered already. The offer sheet was designed in a way that would make it financial hard for the Preds to match. He doesnt need to give in. |
