Calder Cup Rookie Defender of the Year David Jiricek comparison to Calder Cup Champion Zach Werenski.

Right handed shooting right handed defenseman Jiricek suited for the Cleveland Monsters for the majority of the 2022-2023 campaign.

Four games with Columbus, he was pointless. In 55 games with Cleveland, 38 points including 6 goals and 32 assists.

Cleveland was one point away from last place in a stacked north division and three from making the playoffs.

It is unfortunate Jiricek had his season shortened, but he was an AHL All Star as a rookie and won rookie defenseman of the year.

Left handed left shooting defenseman Zach Werenski played for the Michigan Wolverines and Cleveland Monsters one year after he was drafted.

With Michigan, he provided 36 points in 36 games and a Big10 Championship.

They failed in the second round of the NCAAH National Title.

With the Monsters, he won the Calder Cup. He joined the Monsters in the final game of the regular season with one goal in 7 games, and added 14 points in 17 games on their way to win their first and only trophy in franchise history.

Werenski is the top defenseman on Columbus and proved it early, is Jiricek on pace to do the same?
