This is not a joke and not a laughing manner.
According to Brian Hedger of the Columbus Dispatch
Fan abuse is not acceptable at any level. Attacking a family online as a result of a sports competition is not the way to cope with life. Whether it is a troll or someone in need of help. There is ways to go about things and resources for help if individuals or groups need it.
Athletes comes from all over the world and work their entire lives to maintain their physique and provide wealth for years to decades after their play, depending on their outcome or success.
Elvis Merzlikins is a young goaltender with a young family, and a son named in honor of the past Mattias Kivlikens. Elvis made it to be drafted, signed, and the starter of the Blue Jackets, leaving his native Latvia to play in Ohio.
Imagine if you were being threatened with you life, or your families. Don’t do it to the players you root for or support.
Too top it off, after the 7-1 loss against the New Jersey Devils:
The closed door meeting was held by all players, no coaches. 3-7-0 after their first 10 games, they are at 12.5% complete in the regular season. No power play goals. -18 goal differential. This puts the Jackets on pace for a 24-56-2 record with a -144 goal differential. Yuck.
The ship needs to be right, otherwise maybe it’s time to trade Nyquist and Gavrikov to collect more picks to this 2023 arsenal.
Additionally, this meeting happens the day they travel to Finland from Columbus as a result of the Global Series, preparing to do battle with the Colorado Avalanche. On a positive note, Jonas Korpisalo is traveling with the team to Finland.
