To every member of the Hockeybuzz family and our marvelous readers, this is my note to you that each and every single one of you is appreciated and cared for this holiday season and every single day of the year. May times in life continue to be warm, safe, and healthy. You matter and are amazing as you are.
This holiday season I will be once again traveling but not to a great hockey rink like last year’s encounter in Nashville. It’s a fully personal trip. With that, I will be doing a Christmas gift list for the organization today; and World Junior picks tomorrow.
List is being worked on and will be coming soon…
Gifts to the Team
Zach Werenski — a stable partner. He has been working up and down the roster and leads the team in points. He is the All Star. He has not had a consistent top pairing partner since Seth Jones. Damon Severson, Adam Boqvist, Nick Blankenburg, David Jiricek, and Erik Gudbranson have all had minutes this season.
Johnny Gaudreau — goals. Dude needs to score. His apples are coming but he needs to score. His 115 point year is becoming ancient history.
Kirill Marchenko — paycheck. His line is killing it and will help with his extension.
Adam Fantilli / Dmitry Voronkov / David Jiricek — Calder votes. Guys are all playing top minutes in their rookie year.
Ivan Provorov — the system. His gift was getting out of Philadelphia and playing in a system he liked. He gets that here this and next season.
Boone Jenner — a clean slate. Jenner has been dealing with injuries and the media press over the summer, and has not caught a break. Just hoping things get better for the leader.
Yegor Chinakov — bridge deal. That’s what he is going to get in Columbus under their management system.
Justin Danforth — minutes at the top. Not much room for him on the offense beside the the team injuries. He is making the most of it after a year full of injuries last season.
Cole Sillinger — more goals. Or Tate McRae back. His year has been rough. Not like his rookie one. When they sent Johnson and Jiricek down I’m surprise he didn’t go too recover his confidence
Erik Gubdranson— more team toughness. He is on an island most nights.
Kent Johnson — full time NHL minutes. 40 point scorers do not go to the minors. He needs to be with Fantilli or Gaudreau.
Alexandre Texier — more points. He has been very quiet in the production department this season.
Sean Kuraly — better health. Unfortunate what happened to him.
Patrik Laine — Fortnite. Kidding. Better health. Everything for him has been a rough go in Columbus. The coaching carousel and scandal. His health and illnesses. The trade rumors. He has all the tools.
Emil Bemstrom — contact stability. A short term deal as he is a pending RFA.
Damon Severson — comfort. Still working out the rust from injury and in a new system.
Jack Roslovic — a new home. I see the hometown boy sadly departing to make his future brighter.
David Jiricek — more ice time. Can’t let a kid continue to sit in the press box. Walsh is on the phone.
Mathieu Olivier — more fights. They need him on the ice.
Andrew Peeke — a new home. Management seems to be burying him after the was the only healthy defenseman last season. Is getting the Bjorkstrand treatment. Sign a deal a year before and gets traded at the beginning of the new deal. Not a good trend.
Jake Bean — insurance. Is he one from the 18 scandal?
Adam Boqvist — Puck luck. Missed so much time since arriving and has all been pushed out for Jiricek.
Brendan Gaunce — the Calder cup. Go Monsters and wreck shop captain.
Elvis Merzlikins — a shakeup. He has been struggling here. Edmonton?
Spencer Martin — a new home. Tarasov needs play. Martin was a waiver pickup and served us well. Edmonton?
Daniil Tarasov — the starter role. He has a bad hip sure but he needs more rubber to be better
Jet Greaves — the Calder cup and then back up role. In order
Pascal Vincent - a full training camp
Columbus fans - new management and a lottery pick. This will turn them around with better results.
