Sam Gagner joins organization
Gagner has retired after spending has final year of his pro career with Belleville and joins Staios. The only forward in the 2000s to have an 8 point game. Congrats!
Claude Giroux walking away?
Sources indicating this could be the end of the hometown boy’s tenure for the hopes of winning the Cup. Speculation of a reunion to Florida or Philadelphia has been out there; but Tampa/Dallas have been out there too.
Writers suggest Sens’ get younger and replace Giroux with a Boeser or Ehlers, but winning a cup for a player at home would be inspiring.
Drake Batherson trade looming?
The deadline rumors seem to be coming back, and interestingly around Batherson. While the Senators haven't explicitly stated they are actively seeking to trade him, his trade-friendly contract and potential for a change of scenery have made him an attractive option for other teams. It is the third consecutive season in which he has scored 20+ goals and recorded 60+ points. That would have extended back even another season as he finished the 2021-22 season with 17 goals and 44 points in 46 games. Batherson is also in his prime at 27 years old and has two more years left on his steal of a deal.
