The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed defenseman Corson Ceulemans to a three year entry level contract beginning in the 2023-2024 regular season. The youngster and the organization have agreed to an ATO for the remainder of the 2022-2023 regular season.

What does this mean, and how does my title fit into this ?

Let's start with what it means.

Ceulemans is a 2021 first round draft back by the Columbus Blue Jackets. He was the third and final first round pick, with the other two being Kent Johnson and Cole Sillinger.

Ceulemans was the first round draft selection traded by the Toronto Maple Leafs for captain Nick Foligno.

Corson Ceulemans is a Regina, Saskatoon, Canada native, that was developed in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) before making the jump to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

He completed two years of school with the University of Wisconsin under the tutelage of Tony Granato, the brother of the current head coach of the Buffalo Sabres.

Ceulemans had 46 points in 57 games with the AJHL; and 45 points in 67 games with Wisconsin.

Ceulemans joins the Cleveland Monsters in the American Hockey League (AHL) for the remainder of the 2022-2023 regular season, giving them another first round prospect to help their playoff push. They're on the outside looking in for the final spot in the Eastern Conference.

This adds to the depth on defense on the right side, given them now David Jiricek, Billy Sweezey, Marcus Bjork, Cole Clayton, Brenden Miller, and Ceulemans. On the left, there is Dillon Simpson, Samuel Knazko, Jake Christiansen, and Ole Julian Bjorgvik-Holm.

The defense has the most potential to carry the team to the postseason and maybe deep.

Imagine this be the scenario on the defense

Jake Christiansen--Marcus Bjork
Samuel Knazko--David Jiricek
Dillon Simpson--Corson Ceulemans
Ole Bjorgvik-Holm--Billy Sweezey

It is tough down there in the AHL right now, and a young guy can propel a team.

Ceulemans coming into the fold also means he will likely be with the club at Traverse City in the summer and at training camp in the fall.

I still think he is a few years away from the main roster full time, but this adds another young homegrown talent into the stacked defensive Columbus system.

His time and development will land him on the lineup soon.

Defense wins championships, and Jarmo Kekalainen and his amateur scouts are top notch once again.
