Tuesday night, the Hawks got absolutely spanked, losing to the Washington Capitals 7-3. However, the real story of that game was watching hockey history unfold live in front of our very eyes. Alex Ovechkin came into this one needing 3 goals to become only the third player in NHL history to score 800 goals and he did just that. In a lost season like this one for the Hawks, you have to try and find moments that make it bearable, and I think it is safe to say this will go down as one of the highlights of the season. What we are watching Ovi do is incredible and considering he is still putting up the numbers, he is at the age of 37 is insane. The question has turned from if he will catch Wayne to when will he do it. Now just 95 goals away, I think it is going to happen sooner than we all expect.
With that being said, it is time for the Hawks to move on to their next game, which happens to be against the West leading Vegas Golden Knights (21-9-1). The last time these two teams met was the 2nd game of the season and Stalock played out of his mind to keep it a 1 goal game as the Knights topped the Hawks 1-0. This time around I have a feeling it might go just a tad bit different. Vegas comes into this one playing .500 hockey as they are 5-5 in their last 10 but they have to be thrilled to see Chicago on the schedule who come into this one on a 4 game losing streak and are 1-8-1 in their last ten.
#Blackhawks lineup at practice: Lafferty-Domi-Kane Kurashev-R. Johnson-Raddysh Athanasiou-Dickinson-T. Johnson Blackwell-Khaira-Entwistle
McCabe-S. Jones Tinordi-Murphy J. Johnson-C. Jones Mitchell
Soderblom is going to get the start in net for the Hawks in this one, and it appears Coach Richardson has the lines in the blender with the returning Athanasiou going to the third line and Caleb Jones drawing back in the line up. To make room for these two, it looks like Reese Johnson and Ian Mitchell will be the odd men out.
Another line up change to pay attention to is the return of a 5 forward top power play unit. During Wednesdays practice Kurashev, Domi, Raddysh, Tyler Johnson, and Kane were working on that top unit. Kurasev was more than likely filling in for Toews who missed practice for a scheduled maintenance day. It will be interesting to see if this will light a spark for the struggling offense.
