Canucks’ Off-season Continues

We’re heading into the dead of summer hockey news, but that doesn’t mean the Canucks aren’t active.

They recently flipped Arturs Silovs to the Penguins for forward Chase Stillman and a 2027 fourth-round draft pick. It was a tidy, if not foretold, piece of business after the Canucks locked up Demko earlier in July. The Canucks got value for an asset they were likely to lose on waivers, and apparently the Canucks bras view Stillman as more than just a throw-in:

At the very least, Stillman has a high motor, and there’s a feeling that Abbotsford is likely to need some forwards, given some anticipated graduations to the NHL level and how quickly the Calder Cup championship team evaporated this offseason.

Yes, the Penguins wanted to send out a contract in paying for Šilovs, but Vancouver doesn’t view Stillman as solely a standard player contract to level out the Šilovs deal. There’s some interest in seeing what Stillman can be in Abbotsford’s system, and with an opportunity to work with Vancouver’s development staff.

The team isn’t quite done yet, as apparently they’re still working the phones to try and shore up their forwards. There are still some interesting names available in UFA that could help their depth:

- Jack Roslovic
- Victor Olofsson
- Max Pacioretty
- Klim Kostin

Each of these players have their weaknesses, but adding some potential scoring punch is something the team needs. The Canucks have been linked to Roslovic for few years, and it’s someone they could definitely target if his price comes down enough. The team would need to move someone/a couple to make room for him, with the most likely candidates being Blueger and Joshua.

As well, there are a couple RFAs who have yet to sign with their team that would be huge for the team to land one… namely Marco Rossi or Mason McTavish. The price for either would be steep, and the Canucks would have to clear out a lot of cap, but targeting a younger center would have a bigger impact on this coming season than tinkering around the edges of the top 9.

Anywho, hope you’re all enjoying your summer. To the comments:
