Tkachuk and Lajoie, Tkachuk and Lajoie. It seems like every game these two end up being the biggest positives from the night. Thomas Chabot can be included in that as well, but in the 4-1 win over the Dallas Stars, Tkachuk and Lajoie were the ones who got on the scoresheet. My last article was about having some optimism towards this team, and their win over Dallas kept those good times rolling.

It’s only two wins in a row, but there is a lot to like.

For starters, it’s getting into ridiculous territory with how many points Max Lajoie has to begin the year, as he now sits at four goals and three assists in just six games. He won’t continue to be on such a torrid pace throughout the season, but he’s shown that he has the offensive ability to be effective. It’s hard not to like this shot:

And as I mentioned yesterday, he has been getting lots of shot attempts, and with another three shots on goal (and five attempts), he’s up to 18 shots on the season. Three shots on goal per game for a defenseman is incredibly good. This is the kind of start I thought Christian Wolanin was capable of having because he was so impressive in his 10-game debut last season, but it’s even more exciting seeing that there’s another defenseman in the system that has this ability. I’m genuinely optimistic thinking about the left side of their defense with Chabot, Lajoie, and Wolanin there.

Then there’s Brady Tkachuk who added his third of the season last night and it was in a typical Tkachuk spot: right in front of the net.

Tkachuk seems to thrive in the best place to be for a goal scorer:

Just like Lajoie, he was a big part of the offense again as he led the team in shots with five and also led with six attempts. I noted on Twitter that I’ll be happy if Brady ends up being as good as his brother Matthew since his brother is essentially a 60-point winger (when healthy). But with the way that Brady has started...what if he ends up being even better than Matthew? I’m probably getting ahead of myself since he’s only played in four games, but it’s something to think about.

Craig Anderson allowed just one goal for the second straight game and all of a sudden the Senators have a 3-2-1 record. Ottawa has a few days off before they play the Montreal Canadiens at home and they’ll try to keep their momentum going. It’s strange, but there are even more reasons to tune in every night than I initially thought.
