How are we feeling about Lappy’s firing?

The Flyers let Phantoms coach Ian Laperriere go as the clean sweep of coaches continues in Philadelphia. Lappy was a very popular guy here, and you could calli him a successful coach in the AHL working with these guys.

But the Flyers are doing this right. There always felt like there was a disconnect between the way the Phantoms played and the way the Flyers played. They always claimed to be playing the same system, but if you watch the Phantoms play it’s very different game. Having two different systems is really counter-productive to moving guys up from the AHL into the big league.

Rick Tocchet now has to install the same system he’s going to play on the Flyers in the AHL. And while Lappy probably could’ve done that, there needs to be a new excitement at the Phantoms level just like there needs to be a new excitement at the Flyers level.

Having brand new coaches everywhere is a great way to wipe the skeletons out of the closet for some of these guys. We often see players succeed when they get traded to other cities, and a big part of that is that the coach in the new city doesn’t have the same baggage on him that the previous coach did..And even if players managed to change their play with their current team, they always worry about the baggage that’s in there…

It’s time for the flyers to take a trick from the PHL airport’s arsenal and lose all that baggage.

Let’s talk about this in the comments
Do you agree with the firing?
Do you have any ideas for the coah the Flyers should hire?
