Hi everyone,

This is new to me as I have never blogged before, but I noticed that there had not been a Jets entry on Hockey Buzz since February and there had just been a few things that have happened since then so I thought I’d throw my hat into the ring and see what I could do.

I’ll start with a quick recap of the season:
· Who saw a 6-0 victory against the Oilers in the 1st game of the season and then rattling off another 14 wins in the first 16 games. Kreskin may have before he passed in December.

· A little more magic with a nice little 11 game win streak during the dog days of January and February

· Going 8 and 3 and down the stretch to wrap up the first President’s Trophy in franchise history

· A thrilling Round 1 double overtime victory in game 7 over the St Louis Blues made possible thanks to the Manitoba Miracle

· Unfortunately, the Jets couldn’t keep the rhythm going and succumbed to the Dallas Stars in 6 games in Round 2

They didn’t get the ultimate trophy but did garner some other notable end of year awards with a 2nd straight Jennings and Vezina for Hellebuyck (third Vezina in all) along with a little thing called the Hart, and First Team All-star nods for both Helly and Kyle Connor. Arniel may not of won the Jack Adams, but certainly nobody can question he would have been more than justified to of won.

Overall considering many pundits were skeptical of the Jets even making the playoffs, I’ll call the season a middling success, although I get the impression that the players felt they left some money on the table so to speak by not going on a deeper playoff run. Congrats and thanks to the Panthers for beating those dreaded Oilers (some may say I’m a bad Canadian for not wanting McDavid and his barnacle to bring the Cup home, but the scars left behind from the 80’s will never allow me to cheer for the Oilers).

But that was then, this is now, and the silly season is upon us. Kudos to Chevy and the Jets brass for bringing home Jonathan Toews. The jury might be out on what gas he may have left in the tank, but I can’t imagine that Captain Serious would put himself in a position were he could potentially embarrass himself.

The big question now is what’s happening with Ehlers? I would love to be a Fly on the wall to hear what the talks have been and will be between now and July 1, but I think I talk for most Jets fans that we would love to see what a line of Fetts, Toews, and Fly could do over 82 games.

Next on the agenda though is the Draft that starts this Thursday. Unlike a few of the drafts lately I wouldn’t be surprised to see a fair bit of action especially considering the elevating cap. My unqualified suspicion is that Chevy will bundle the Jets 28th pick in the 1st round with a prospect or 2 to add either a veteran d-man or a scoring winger (can you say JJ Peterka?).

That’s it for now. I’m planning on my next writing to be a recap of the Draft and possible ponderings just before The Frenzy hits.

Hope you all enjoyed this and let me know your thoughts, as like butterflies, they are free.

Jets for life
